Anyone got intel on this board?  It looks to me like it is @10 "6 but it aint the current nalu 10 6.5.  The nose looks bigger.  I totally dig it and am in the market for a progressive longboard SUP.

Just received an email announcement from Naish today....that's the 2015 Javelin LE, the email said it will be available this fall. There was a link to the Naish website where there is more info.

I noticed that among the many things Naish is saying about why the new boards are so good, it's not mentioning anything about whether they added weight above what the previous models weighed to make them comply with the sacred SUPAA board limits.

My guess is either that they didn't care about whether they were compliant, or if they did, and did add weight, they didn't want to make a big deal about the new boards being heavier.  "NEW HEAVIER WEIGHT FOR SUPAA COMPLIANCE!" wouldn't be a very inspiring marketing line.

Nose shape very similar to Mike Day's designs, i.e. the Coreban Sonic.  More & more boards are starting to look like that.

Sweet.  We'll look forward to the report, DJ.  Does it seem like they brought back a bit more of the nose rocker?  Not back to where it used to be, but the 2014s seem much straighter--correct?

cool!  he sure likes surfing with that adjustable paddle,
He uses the adjustable paddle to change sizes to mimic the various sticks and trees he is going by.  This serves as a form of camouflage and helps him blend in with the surroundings preventing possible attacks from near by flying Pterodactyl.

As hardcore as Naish is being about 14' being the max for elite racers in races they sponsor, I doubt we'll be seeing anything longer from them.

I paddled the new LE Jav. at OR. They are as light and a little springy from the light carbon lay up. You paddle it with the nose up to plane a 6+. The new race boards are on the same idea on the planing flatter bow. Need power to get them there in sprints +6, but might not be the best bet for long distance out of a train at 90% power.

When Chuck Patterson and the Naish rep were here at gorgebob's demo day, I asked them if Naish would ever make a flatwater unlimited, and the answer was they doubted it because there's just not much of a market.  Can't remember if just one or both of them said that.  Chuck P. did say the old Naish 17' does surprisingly well on flatwater.  So I'd love to see the Starboard 17' do well, and maybe get Naish back into doing an UL board.

One thing--it was only about 3 or 4 years ago that I was up in Seattle picking up a used 14' Glide at Urban Surf, and I happened to be there at the start of the Naish weekly Lake Union race series.  The max. length allowed--set by Naish--in the race was 12-6.  I just saw the results from the same series for this year.  There were a couple dozen guys in the 14' category (now legal) and only 3 on 12-6--a total reversal from none on 14' only a short time ago.  There was even one woman on a 14'.  So things can change.

Why do people think they're not making narrower Javelins anymore?  Plus introducing the new extra-wide Javelin?  Looks like a repeat of the widening of the Glide last year, and getting rid of the 27" Glide that was popular (the board, not the getting rid of it).

A new and different shade of yellow?

It's so rare that I'm actually right about something that I want to savor this. I said a few years ago that the 14' and 12'6" nonsense in racing would kill development of anything longer and we'd be stuck in a slow race where only skinny kids under twenty could be competitive. welcome to 2014, where the only thing even remotely interesting is SIC downwind boards and all the rest of the stuff is plain vanilla. Stupid, really stupid. and the manufacturers have no one to blame but themselves. Especially Naish. You get your wish, you don't have to make bigger boards. Welcome to mediocrity.

Now watch the Chinese eat you up because they can make the same silly formula, only moreso, and can do it cheaper. Downhill from here.
Title: Re: New Naish.
Post by: gorgebob on December 02, 2014, 09:01:38 PM
The Naish bigger trend is interesting since they just came from too skinny 2 years ago.
I hope they come up with something sweet and at a real value.
I have butted heads with the company but I respect them and I want to continue to support Naish.
Title: Re: New Naish.
Post by: pdxmike on December 02, 2014, 09:51:48 PM
If they were too skinny, then too wide, maybe this time they'll be just right.

If people can speculate wrongly enough, and a few others follow up on PonoBill's bringing board lengths and the Chinese into this, DJ should snap and reveal what he knows within a couple days.

Personally, I believe southwesterly may be right with the new yellow.  Or...a new aluminum board???
Title: Re: New Naish.
Post by: PonoBill on December 02, 2014, 10:33:06 PM
Seriously, what is anyone going to do that anyone cares about? Half inch wider, half inch narrower. they've stuffed themselves into a design box that offers no innovation and nothing, zip, nada, nothing for anyone that weighs more than 190. Sad and silly. No one learned anything from what happened to windsurfing, where everything collapsed to a tiny set of specs that only fit a specific set of conditions. Right board, mast, booms and sail. oops, the wind dropped while I was rigging, now I need a little bigger board, mast, booms and sail--oh, it's back up...
Title: Re: New Naish.
Post by: pdxmike on December 02, 2014, 11:39:42 PM
It would be great if it were a new flatwater unlimited board.  But even then, the chances of it being anything in the 15' to 16.5' range--which as you (PB) have pointed out could be an ideal length for many people based on performance (vs. rules)--are probably smaller than it being an aluminum board.

If it is a 15' downwind board, I doubt DJ would be able to stay quiet.

Hey, DJ... Isn't it 2015 in Oz right about now...?  Happy New Year,  now spill the beans! WasSUP with Naish ?
 ;D ;)

I know the guys at Naish (Oz) and they said to keep it to myself and that it should be ok to say something public in early Jan.. I checked with them today and now they say it might not be till early March.. Sheesh.. So.. I'm thinking stuff it and just spill the beans even if it means they wont tell me about anything new every again.. The new Naish boards are a part of the Hokua range so they're surfing boards.. They are Hokua Raptors.. all 7' long and three different widths.. They're Vanguard style boards.. and they look awesome.. They have been working on these boards for some time and they are very happy with what they've finally come up with.. Apparantly Robby can't stop riding his and loves it sooo much.. I'll post a couple of pics when I get home.. Please don't go into your Naish dealers and hassle them about these new boards.. The dealers themselves might not even know about them and these new boards are still a way off... I've also heard that next on the drawing board for Naish is a full on DW specific board..  8)

32" wide....

good to see they are mixing it up ;D

7' seems like it leaves out a lot of the existing market.... maybe they are making a play for the younger crowd.

The first board looks like it has a LOT of kite board influence in it. Has the same plan shape as a 5'2" Naish directional (the yellow one) I used to ride and which Robbie himself rode for ages!!

I love the wake, kite, surf, snow cross over that is going on in SUP....a real mix bag
