Title: Vibe sesh
Post by: surfercook on December 20, 2013, 01:18:14 PM
Scored a used Vibe on Craigslist. Pretty stoked on it. I don't see it working in real hollow, steep waves, but for most of the conditions I'm in here in NJ, should be my go to board. Went from a 9'11" PSH Ripper two yrs ago to a 9'3" Isle Performance and now I'm on this. My second go out on it in this vid and it's feeling good in the small stuff.

What a cool little peak you scored on your first day with the new board, fun to watch!

Really enjoyed the second video. With the water temps you guys must have, that looks gnarly! Cold water like that is a lot heavier. Nice riding.

Thanx for checkin' out my vids covesurfer and Will. Cold water? No worries, i guess I'm so used to it by now that it's second nature. These days had pretty mild air temps which makes a big difference. When we get those brutal Canadian/Arctic air masses and wind chills is when it starts gettin tough.

Good "Vibe"s this day here in NJ!  8) Pretty clean little waves on 1/16/14! Pretty warm too, for Jan. Air around 40, water 'bout the same. Real light wind helped.

Good swell here in Jers last coupla days. I think 1/22/14 was one of the coldest I ever surfed here. 1/22 was a bit too gnarly for me to SUP so I rode my big wave longboard, I call her "Big Blue". 1/23 was SWEET on the Vibe though, piece 'o cake!

Thanx for checkin out my pics, Creek. Yea, there's def a winter crew of hardcores here in NJ that is only a fraction of the fair weather crowd. LOVE the solitude of winter surfing best.

First go out w/the bicycle handlebar mount results. Swing weight is a factor and after about 1-1/2 hrs it started to wear on me. I think mounting on blade might even be worse, but I won't know until next sesh when I give that a go. One thing, next time I use this mount, leash/tether will be on blade end, not handle end. One or two shots it showed. I did like how I was able to collapse cam and still paddle prone w/paddle under chest. Guessing that will not be possible w/a blade mount. Could be the deciding factor, especially in size. Fun little day here in NJ. Not too cold for mid-Feb.

Sweet pics!  I like the perspective you get with that mount. I'm still taking baby-steps with my GP...  Paddle on,  JD

I try and find different ideas off the top of my head for vids, but sometimes the well runs dry.
Here's my first GoPro vid from Jers. Fun little day but alot of closeouts. Paddle mount is a tricky learn.

Cool pics I'm on a vibe as we'll these days and liking it a lot. What's your fin setup?  Do you find the rails still a bit thick. How tall are you and weight?  Floats me fine but I'm small. 5'6" 155

Thanx JD and SSIS for checkin' out my Vibe action. Start takin' bigger steps JD!
SSIS- I started w/the stock tri setup and after about a month and 5 or so sessions went to a custom quad setup of Sea Shepherd swing twinies and trailing bites. The rails are def FAT on this board so it's hard to really lay it on edge, but for most conditions I encounter here in NJ it's my go to board. I'm 6'0"/180 lbs so this board must be like a barge for you. Vibe is 130 ltrs and my 9'3" Isle Performance is 124 ltrs. i use that board for the bigger more hollow days as it's quite gunny.

Not quite a barge but it definitely floats me I paddle to and from breaks sometimes and deal with chop and wind a fair bit so not so bad but a thinner rail would be nice maybe even an s rail same dimensions.  I'm going to try that fin set up seams almost like a Simmons set up. Thanks for the info.

Vibe is alive! Real nice glass off a day after another winter storm. One of our more beloved spots here on LBI, NJ. Second sesh w/paddle mount. Feeling ALOT more comfortable w/it already.

Was benched for two weeks w/a wrecked knee from snowboarding. Finally had a go in some decent surf here in NJ on the first day of spring. Paddle mount working well and sure felt good to get back. Funny thing was I didn't hurt my knee riding, I did it trying to get up from a sitting in the snow position after clippin in.

Great shots. You're way off that tail so you always ride like that or do you step back above the tail for sharper turns and sprays.  I'm try to get this thing to throw better. I put some quads on and been riding on the tail. Work in progress.

For down the line cruzin' to make sections I'm more forward. For turns and lips def move back to the tail. Vid here from my March session might show it good.

I love it! I have skied in -40 degree weather with even colder windchill for a couple runs, give you props for going out in 3 degree weather into water. Love cold water SUPing here in colorado. Great shots and video!

Thanxz, Mtn. I forgot this thread was started in the winter. Today was REAL warm. I took the hood off for a bit when the sun came out. And the wettie is thinned out a bit, 4/3 full, 3mil gloves, 5 mil boots. Dead of winter here in NJ i rock a 6/5/4 full, 5mil gloves, and 7mil boots.

What is air and water temp right now? I was in river yesterday and it was 55 out, and I would guess water was mid 40's-50. Had a 4/3 full, Teva river shoes, pfd and I was sweating at take out. Been in the 20's for a week prior.

In NJ tday at 9AM my estimate is air = 50F, water = 50, wind = light. Water is too cold for river shoes, feet would go numb. Sure felt good to ditch the hood once that sun came out. Boosted air temp to about 60.
