Title: Flaunt your schtick.
Post by: tautologies on September 28, 2008, 01:13:22 AM

So what gear set up do you have?
I've mixed it up a little Got the new Naish 11'4, the Naish 10'6, and the Chambers 9'6'' Ripper. All of which are super nice boards IMO.
When I got the last boards, I've been looking at a lot of boards, and I must say there is a lot of nice boards out there...also some I don;t fancy as much, but overall, I think the developent is staggering. :-)

My personal boards, the ones I actually paid for myself:
10'6 Dewey Weber Stylist, the crusier.  10'6 Avisio Titius Kinimaka, the performance board. The 11'0 Infinity Rad Noserider. The 10'6 C-4, the "go-to" board.  And the 9'8" Mission quad plus one chined rail, the speedie board.

Wow, good to see I am not the only gear head.
So why is the C4 the go to board? I had a go on one, and it didn't do it for me, but I guess we're all different. I know guys who does like the board so I understand. I am guessing that the 10'6'' will be my go to board, as the 9'6'' requirews calmer seas and more pitchy waves.

Now if only my skills would measure up  :-) Not to worry though, as the gear develops it gets easier to ride it :-)

The C-4 10'6 is my 'go-to" because I feel the most comfortable in the most variable conditions. If I don't have a good read on the surf or if the surf is less than perfect, than I know my c-4 will still give me a good day.  If the surf is a little larger, than I know the C-4 will hold  and perform well. If I go to surf and the surf goes away, I can still get a good paddle with out sacrificing glide. Or it is just like an old pair of flip flops. Comfy

Here in Portland it's a Starboard 12'6", Starboard 12'2", Starboard Point, Naish 11'6"

In Maui it's JL 11er, Starboard 12'6", Naish 11'6", Naish 10'6", Foote Custom 10'11" X 30

As soon as I get back to Maui I'm going to be looking for a great Maliko run board, Maybe an F16. I'm looking forward to doing long runs, maybe from Hana to Kahalui. Sounds like a fun run to me. It would be neat to do runs from my house, which is about five miles past Ho'okipa (near Jaws--Peahi) but it's a long hike to get to the beach and it's a nasty launch over the rocks, though much nastier if you need to come back in. Maybe Nuaailua bay or Keanae

I've got two boards: a C4 10'  production board which I feel is the perfect  board for Southern Califonia waves. The other is a custom 12' race board I bought used from Tim Stamps. I got it for the Battle of the Paddle race and I'll let you know in a couple of weeks how it is. Here's a picture of it.......

I just wish I could make it go as fast as it looks.

Looks pretty cool Tom, where does your walker attach?

I went out on my Point this morning--no joy. It's just flat slow with me on it.  I did 6.4 miles and it was just grim. Too heavy for it. I guess I'm going to be on my 12'2" at the BOP.

I'm riding the 10' C4.  Just started a few months ago and couldn't be more addicted.  Haven't touched any of my longboards since I brought my SUP home...  ;D

My 10'10" WALDEN is a custom.  Pretty much a prototype of the production model you see now.  So I can't say exactly what the production model is like as I have never ridden one.  Mine is a great overall board, although the tip riding is weak.  This was corrected in my 9'6" and 9'2".  I don't paddle the 10'10" much unless it's really tiny or I'm just going for distance.  The 9'6" has adequate flotation for just about anything. (I weigh 180).
