We have had lots of good wind lately here on Oahu, with some fun downwind runs.
I narrated some video with some tips for downwinders, hope you enjoy them:

Plus here is another downwind video from last week (no narrating in this one, just music):

Good stuff Robert! Hope to do an HK run one day.

Thanks Takeo,
I have been enjoying your downwind run videos from the Big Island as well, looks like you have a good crew over there, too, hopefully I'll get to join you one of these days.
Aloha, Rob

Thanks for the great videos Robert, and thanks again for the great rental service when I was over there last November!

Thank you very much guys. Was the volume of the videos loud enough to hear? When I tried to listen to it on my laptop speakers on youtube it was hard to hear it even at full volume. When I was editing it, the volume was fine. I'm wondering if I should to re-do the videos at higher volume.

Sound was definitely low . What a great effort Robert. Talking while paddling is no easy feat, that was cool !!

I'm sure this HK 101 will help many, good stuff! I love watching video to read swells, makes good practice.

That was awesome. Felt like I was on the run with you. Thanks Rob. Look forward to catching up in July. Dave

Good to see what Hawaii Kai run is like. How much does the wind speed get up to? Seems like a faster wind speed, might be fun at the beginning but towards the end of the run it can come back and bite you in the you know what with that offshore push. That ground swell coming in from the outside is the saving grace really!? Looks like fun, I see long runners there and great connecting op. Was going to do a run last year, but plans changed. This year going up to Oahu for the Da Hui Race, maybe I can get some time in and hook up with someone for a Hawaii Kai run too. You seem to know the place very well, thanks for sharing!

I had to turn the volume up a couple of notches on my laptop, but not all the way. After that, I could hear fine. I don't think it's necessary to re-do them.
Thanks again,
Doug

Fantastic set of videos on downwinding. The narration is awesome, especially when combined with the opportunity to visually observe what you're describing and the technique you're using. Love your ride past the wind sock at the very end, it's a great finish! I'd love to do the HK run one day. Thanks for posting these!

Thanks for the positive feedback. Dave, are you coming for the Maui to Molokai race again? Let me know when you are on Oahu, JF808 too.
I re-posted the three videos with the audio volume boosted up and also added the GPS data and older video with Hawaii Kai run tips to the post:

That was nice to hear what you were thinking at the time, made me want to go paddle and practice it.
Thanks enjoyed it.

Great videos Robert! Thanks!
Looking forward to doing the Da Hui race again this summer.
Would be great for some of us to get together for a downwind HK run then.
-
Great job Robert! Hope you can make it to Maui for some Maliko runs this year.
-
Thanks Jeremy, I'm planning to do the Maui to Molokai race again this summer for sure, and will hopefully get in a few Maliko runs with you guys, too. Aloha!

Rob - Yep - coming over for the Triple Crown and Naish race. But only doing Maui this year unfortunately. See you in July. Dave
