Many of the SUP boards have diamond tails, from what I heard they are supposed to make the board feel shorter by giving them a smaller turn radius... Is this correct? Anyone care to elaborate?

Hi boots,
You nailed it. Diamond tails are supposed to shorten the rail line in relation to overall board length, allowing for snappier top turns etc. I have also heard some say that they can clean up water release over squash tails.
Best,

Some good qualities of a pintail combined with a squash tail, at least I think.
