there is a bunch of info in different threads like ^
it is tough and takes a lot of time. A plastic scraper and goof off spray worked ok for me.

Mate you are in luck as I removed one last weekend off my new PSH ripper. ;)

Firstly...... get a couple of old towels that will cover your deck/pad area and lay them over the deckpad.

Next......... pour mineral turps all over the towels and make sure they are fully drenched.

Now ........wrap the board in black plastic (type you would use when concreting) and leave it overnight.

Next morning the deckpad will peel straight off and then you may have some glue residue left to remove using a plastic paint scraper and some turps.

I couldn't believe how easy it came off and that was a camo pink PSH deckpad which was a real bad look.

It does not affect the paint work on the board, and will stop you getting blisters on your thumbs from trying to peel it off with a hairdryer.

The board now has a snow PSH camo grip and looks unreal.

Wazza66 , that sure sounds like a easy solution. Having the pad come off in one peace.

Has any one else tried using Mineral_turpentine in this manner.

YES, it works. I did a small experiment using different solvents,  Turps was best :)

Yes.  You can smoke using this method.  But, you will probably quit immediately.

Varsol, or paint thinner works perfectly (NOT lacquer thinner!).

The bag method is a great tip -- THANKS Wazza66!

You definitely want some good ventilation in any case (I know these things).

The bag method sounds easy and great but EPS foam is pretty sensitive to fumes - if you had any pinholes or the like would the values be able to seep in and destroy the foam beneath the fiberglass?

Hey guys,  the turps or mineral turpentine does not affect the board at all.

I have used this method on 3 boards and not a problem.

Glad to help out.

So here in the US, yse mineral spirits with the towel and plastic method. Eventually take off the pad. Take off residue with plastic scrapper.

What should i clean with before replacing the pad?

Thanks.

i would still do a leak test and tape/repair any possible leak area.  As i have post in the past, i was cleaning the pad residue with goo off and the fume ate a good chunk of foam under the veneer where there was a hairline crack.  I would do test on a scrape eps foam/cup on all solvent before using it. wipe it on and leave it for a day or wipe it on and cover it with plastic and leave it out in the sun for a day and see if it does anything.  this only applies to eps only board, sandwich constructiion have better protection from most solvent. the PVC sandwich foam doesnt doesnt react to much solvent.

Question: if the deck pad itself is off and only the glue remains is this the best approach?
What tool  works best to scrape the glue off?

Do i need to worry about the rail tape ? Or how to protect it without removing it first?

Perfect timing for this thread - quick poll:

1. Rip the whole deck pad off and wax? I'm used to wax, the pros and cons on my other board
2. Rip off just enough to get a new stomp pad on?

try as i might i could not get wax to stick under my stance locations.
so i went for minimal pads there on my ST.

I pick #2 - cut/scrape off what you need to get the new kick pad to fit, and then contact cement anything else that might be loose elsewhere. EZ-PZ.

OK thanks for those who pointed out the soaked towel with Mineral spirits trick.
It does not need to be over night in my case (1 hour was just right) but i had already removed the deck pad and was only dealing with the 3m tape/glue.

First i covered my rail tape with saran wrap to protect it.
I didnt use a towel but a sheet. I poured mineral spirits (not turpentine) on it and then I then covered it with a plastic garbage bag.

one hour later i was able to scrape it off with a plastich scraper and some elbow grease on a soaked rag.

Washed it all up with rubbing alcohol.

one thing i will say: the areas where i had reglued the deck pad over the past year with 3m spray glue were a B#$ch to remove.

Next time i will pay someone to do this: Robert: what do you charge to do this?
