Title: WW SUP event at Teva Mountain games Vail, CO
Post by: Allan Cheateaux on February 24, 2010, 02:31:37 PM
Looks like DG is putting it on. There's a 3 mile timed event and an all out dash for cash mass start event.

Sounds like that event will be fun.  Hopefully there will be plenty of water.

Can't wait. I live here in the Vail area and have been working a bit with the TMGs on it. They are really excited to add the event. It will get a ton of exposure here as the tv program airs worldwide. If anyone is around the Boulder area on May 15th we are going to help do a stand up demo for the Games and promote the event on the front range. Stand up is going to explode here this summer.

I need to get a river-running board.  Do you have any used ones for sale in Vail?

I dont know of any used ones yet. People that have boards tend to hold on to them around here as the supply is just starting. A bit different from the coasts as they are flooded.

Where can I find info about the Boulder demo?
I would like to get an up close look at some river-running SUPs.
Thanks.

I found a shop in Denver.  That has the C4 River boards.  I'm sure they have used ones to either buyer or rent.  Confluence Kayaks, downtown by the REI in the Vitamin Cottage building.  303-433-3676

The owner John said that he's been down their whitewater park a few times.   And to watch out for the lips at the manmade parks.  They will grab a fin quick and send you over the handlebars forsure.

I also heard about the owner on one of the places in Salida that jumped off her board in their town run and sliced her babymaker really bad.  Something like 30 stiches, OUCH!  Becareful on the shallow stuff out here.  The Colorado River (the old Grand River) seems like the best river in the State. John also said to check out the Yampa River near Steamboat when it runs in the spring.

Teva should be really cool.  You got to have the hook-up out here for sure, because to really enjoy your SUP you need a Drysuit  (water can be in the 30-50 degree range most of their season).  Wetsuits are for the Ocean, or so every person I talk to has told me.
