Good article about Archie Kalepa's river run:

Denver Post story with another view.

Wonder what other paddlers thoughts are?

looks fun to me, record or not.
A truly fine human being, record or not.
I thought the record was kind of silly. The Denver Post article deservedly poked some fun at it, all in good humor. Does surfing have any Guinness Records? I think not... My impression is that Guinness records are a contrived artifice for unabashed glory seekers.
However, if there's any one feat that deserves special recognition in river running... it's the recent 186' drop of Palouse Falls by Tyler Bradt (http://adventure.nationalgeographic.com/kayak-waterfall-record)

Hmmm. Once you tip over the edge it's all just gravity.
^^^ and hoping the the force of the water hitting your chest doesn't cut you in half!
