I guess you want to be leashed in such a way that you dont fall too far from the board. I am getting an f-18 and want to know if the mid deck leash plug is the way to go for open water (no surfing) I currently have a leash plug at the very tail with a long coiled leash and the board will drift pretty far and I have to reel it in before I can jump back on.
Thanks for any suggestions
Shawn
I like the cetner leash. I have my Starboard 12'2" set up that way and the leash stays out of the water and doesn't get in the way when you're getting back on the board. My point has a tail leash plug, and it's bit of a pain.
I don't think you'd want to be dragged in a wave with a center leash plug though.
how long is your leash in the center placement? Many thanks
Have the board built with 2 leash plugs spaced 24" apart near the middle. Then you can carry it using C4s paddle straps, and use it for a leash point.
It's a wonderful way to carry a huge race board.
I use a fairly short but very stout coiled calf leash made for SUP. Even a relatively long leash will stay out of the water.
Hi Shawn,
My F18 has both the mid deck leash plug as well as one near the tail. I only use the mid deck plug & I use the Dakine coil SUP leash, which I believe is either 10' or 12'. It stays completely out of the way. I really like the mid deck plug. When I fall (and I fall a lot) my board never gets pulled too far away from me so its easy to get right back on. Although, like PonoBill said, I'd hate to see what happens if the board gets yanked super hard by a very large swell.
Thanks for the advice. I usually have a 400+yard sand walk back to the car so have a strap might be a good option too. I am going to keep this in mind when Mark is ready to finish the board.
I am going to try the short mid leash on my board
Thanks
