Yeah I know, it's not a hot chick pic but I still dig it. My old pal has trashed knees and defines the motto that's it's all in your mind. This was a pretty heavy day that he bagged with me during his short visit on Maui this winter. This was the way it was, digging down in troughs so deep that we occasionally disappeared from each other's view.
When we were done, you shoulda seen the look on the old dog's face. Pure stoke.
Since he left, no wind.
Nice.
Grin factor is the true measure of a good day out. It's also how I pick my gear.
I can't tell you how proud I am to be his brother. Despite my always giving him shit about his geezer status....I hope some of it rubs off....feeling like a bit of a wimp lately.
This is how I want to die. ;)
Great shots!
Fun day, and thanks for the pics. I was going to bitch about the "old dog" reference, but I looked in a mirror and shook my head--looks like I'm part bloodhound.
I agree with everyone--great pics. And exactly how I picture myself on the muddy Willamette 20 yards from shore.
Nice looking DW board in one of the photos. After looking at Bill's signature, I'm guessing the board is the SIC 17.5 footer.
Yup, SIC Bullet 17.5' V1.
Really a cool pic and happy you guys got to bag such an epic day. I start feeling a little regretful that I didn't join you and then I remember that you came in across the lower Kanaha Reef at the freaking oil tanks on a day with 12 foot windswell and 6 foot groundswell. :-[ ;D
Yeah, that was a little sketchy.
40+ today off south maui. Super intense but great troughs. A bit offshore but it wasn't difficult to go left towards shore. Victor did it on a 14, along with Covesurfer, and LaPerouse and me.
Tomorrow looks great as well on the forecast. You may want to fly back...
I guess hink the saying 'old guys rule' applies!
+1 on what HM said. I kinda like the old guys rule thing too ;D
Kihei was the windiest I've seen it. So strong and with enough off-shore angle that I almost did not go. Gusts so strong and long that they were truly ferocious. The kind of day that is absolutely off the charts fun but where you don't want ANYTHING to go bad. I fell two or three times in 6 miles and on two of those falls my 17+ foot board went careening over my head and hit the end of the leash.
Plenty of swells out there too the next time the wind craps out. You might want to think about another trip.
Fell hard on my bullet 17 and cracked it on top about 6 inches in front of the rudder. Bummer. Need to strip the pad back there and drop it at Ding King's.
Here's a vid of the wind at thousand peaks yesterday. Windy!
