This can be a downwinder, flat water or distance board.
Its probably a good thing that I'll have to wait a bit before getting a true race board. I'll get to distill the experience from here and make a great decision when the time comes. Until then my trusty 12-6 will fill in.
Excellent poll!

After trying a longer board it is really hard to go back...I got on my JL 12'6 and it felt like a lot of work to make it move
Here in australia we have seen a shift to the 12-6 category as many of our races aren't always great downwinders our swells are much shorter making it very hard on the longer boards, the shorter boards are some times faster , the trend now is too have 2 race boards pending conditions.
The R&D wheel is spinning hard here as the board designers are trying to make one board to perform in all conditions.
Changed my vote.... ;D

Vec 14' downwind
Any board can be you race-board, right? If you're in the race just to participate. Now, in the early stages of SUP racing there are a lot of people just participating because it's such enjoyment and the big events are such "a happening". I'd hate to see this go away and it could end if the general participants get intimidated.
Hopefully, a surfboard SUP class, or all-around SUP board class will always be present at the big races.

Waiting on the new Jimmy Lewis Slice, should have one by the spring. Hoping it will make the Cape Cod Bay Challenge a "little" easier.
14' Stand Up Life race board. I love this board...won my division at the Battle of the Paddle on it.

Was that pic taken just before C2C?
Yes, I took this picture just before the C2C race. The first 11 miles were a blast...great conditions for a Florida downwinder...the second 11 miles were brutal upwind. Did you race in the C2C?
Yeah, the nose in the fore ground of your pic is my son's surf ski.
Definitely a race of 2 contrasting halves....
