Pretty much any class 1-3 river with medium flows is awesome. I've found it's much easier to paddle rivers with round smooth rocks as they catch less and you don't come To a sudden stop and do the flying squirrel off the board. But I've paddled in the south east, n east. Canada, California and pretty much anywhere that's good for teaching beginner kataing is good for sup.

How about starting with an outfit that uses Rapidfires to teach lessons? :)  Seriously, that board makes rivers an order of magnitude easier than any other SUP on the market.

I went to grad school in Seattle, where I spent most of my free time on the rivers in Washington. I'm having dreams of SUP'ing down the Wenatchee right now.

I have a feeling that most of the whitewater kayak schools will be teaching SUP lessons next year. However, if you can't wait, just take a WW kayak lesson on three, and you will learn what you need to know about how rivers work.

We have some Rapidfires down here in Mexico.  If its too cold to get on the water up there check us out...We offer instruction all winter long.
