We are off to a great start here in Vail for the 2010 Teva Mountain Games. This is the first year for stand up river boarding at the event and the level of excitment is high here in the mountains. I have been involved with the TMGs since the beginning but to see Brian Keaulana and the crew of paddlers here from Hawaii is a highlight. Racing against them will be awesome. There is a stacked field of great stand up paddlers from all different disciplines. Dan Gavere, Charlie Mac, Brian K., Dave Collins, Nikki Gregg and many others will make this a really competitive river race on Saturday. Stand up paddling is also the talk of the town as everyone is tripping out on seeing them on the river and walking thru town toting boards. There is a ton of media in town and they have just been eating it up.
Water levels for the race are good and the sun is out to warm things up all weekend long. The river was higher and dropped a bit but now looks like it may come up in time for the 10:30 start tomorrow. Mild class II-III, freezing cold water, a few drops and rapids, low bridges and rocks will have everyone on their toes. 8,150 of elevation will have everyones lungs cooking. Its going to be great race. Hope to see you here.
