No secret stand up is taking off in the mountains. It's amazing to see the growth and interest around here, and so quickly. I read a post about river stand up and it's potential. In my opinion, yes. It is a bit dangerous but what isn't? There are some amazing paddlers coming out of kayaking like Gavere, Charlie Mac, and Corran. After 16 years of kayaking I now log more days on my board. And as the interest grows the designs will follow. Soon there will be more refined river designs and the limits will be pushed. So far my foamy Black Tip has worked well.
Here is a video clip from my head cam. It gives a pretty good idea as to what you are looking at while heading downstream. If you decide to get into it, take a swiftwater rescue class. It's really fun.

I gotta say, the choke at 2:12 was some good $hit. But the black hole consuming the sun during the LB part had me scurred.

Where are you at in CO? I would love to run the Eagle with you...

In Gypsum, about 20 miles east of Glenwood. Sure, be great to paddle with someone else. Send me an email if you are in the area. The Colorado river is a great run as well, not just park and play surfing. Much deeper then the Eagle in these clips.

Very cool. Love that area. Hitchiked to Glenwood Springs and climbed Mt. Sopris about a zillion years ago. Went to the Springs out in the woods--fond memories or lovely skinny-dipping hippy ladies. And I do the Colorado 500 motorcycle ride every few years. Next time I'll bring an ULI on the back of my scooter.

Great video! Really enjoyed that. I'm waiting to get my plastic Stand Up 12 from Imagine before heading up to the American River to start running easy class II.
