... as to the name ASSUP... are you kidding me??? Really???

Tim

Thanks for all the feedback Tim, just so there is no confusion though, it is ASUPP.

Strand Leper

Thanks for clarifying Watermanleague person... but that is the point... I respect SUP, and core SUP surfers ... and I screwed up... the phonetically problematic name is kind of an invitation to ridicule.  But again, good luck, and I commend you for launching this endeavor in this action sports economic climate.

a fine video, and as we all know if you're going to change the way the world thinks about anything, you have to go over the top. I'd work on that acronym, it simply sucks. Call it SUPP, or call it Fred, but please ditch anything that makes the venture sound stupid. You might think you're too far into the implementation to change it now, but a year from now you'll hate yourself. It literally could kill all your hard work. Way too many people waiting in the sidelines to laugh at this.

The Waterman League is a little heavy, but it will be fine. No one can get away with saying these guys aren't watermen, and it points out the depth and breadth of many of the people who embrace this sport. People who think a single format of surfboard is the only thing that should be in the water as just narrow minded little bigots.

But Ass Up? That's just asking for it.

Pretty cute little blonde though

As usual, Bill is right....about both the name and the blonde. :D

After watching that vid all i want to do is go for a sup! This stuff is great for the sport and the marketing is top notch. The number and quality of sup surf vids that are going to come from this tour is going to be mind blowing and will open the sport up to everyone. Bring it on!

re:  ASSUP or ASSUP

Pono,

On second thought... I think that you have found an awesome new marketing angle... and perhaps logo... I shudder to think what the Haters will do with that new logo, however, (think "unnatural act").

Pono and Watermanleagu guy:

I get that these guys are studs and by any reasonable standard can be called Watermen... It looks like there will be contests in multiple disciplines, hence the name.  Once there are contests in the multiple disciplines, then it makes sense that the name is a mere description of the various endeavors that will be judged rather than an "over the top" label for geriatric pro surfers, (I am going with the caricature sp? here, as that is not my opinion).  The image that I get (just me... not necessarily anyone else) is that of an over the hill Sean Connery taking his shirt off one time too many in that REALLY awful superhero movie... with the CGI not sufficiently retouching his half naked body... and the viewer thinking, goodness, he really does not know "when to say when."  The pro surfer parallel is obvious, although, IMHO, unfair.

Having stated all of that, my opinion on this is likely worth what you paid for it.

We love the colorful description Tim!  Yes as we progress and showcase more events, The Waterman League will be just that, a league of watermen from all sports and areas of the world who uphold the true values of what we stand for. We are currently getting things together for showcases on Vanina Walsh and Riggs Napolean, so you dont have to worry about the more experienced riders getting all the glory. For right now though, we are displaying their top talent in expectation of an exciting Stand Up World Tour.

Too Funny!

I agree it's a big fat target for haters and why make it easy for them.

Honolii

Not worried about what it's called, or ancronyms.
I'll still stand up paddle surf no matter what it's called.
Same reason when I started, didn't care about others laughing at me and so on.
That was 3 years ago, and just in the last 3 months I've seen same people starting to SUP.
I SUP for myself, not for others.

Of course you do, and so do I. But this is not you or I, it's an organization that will represent SUP surfers.

It's a moot point, I immediately recognize watermanleague's bland response--it's the one I give people when I'm really saying "kiss off, I've got bigger problems to solve."  And that's fair enough, it was just a piece of friendly advice, worth no more than I charged for it.
