XPS Pump Foil Board build

Ok , ok, I'm entering the fray. Ordered some carbon and boxes to start a pump foil board.

I'm using 1" Home Depot Foamular just to be super DIY.

I'm testing in advance of a larger wing or SUP (or both?) build.

It's 14"x 32"-ish and pretty much a rectangle like all my new friends in Europe and various American lakes use.

It'll have traditional Futures longboard boxes tied to 1" x 1/4" pine stringers for strength.

Now, beyond not blowing up a ton of materials on a test, why a pump board?

As I've learned to pump through lulls with my Axis 1050 I discovered how fun and novel it is. Then over the last year I've had various minor health issues (mundane surgery and minor colds etc) and some major family stuff (deaths, etc) that have made it harder to get in the ocean consistently.

I've been hitting a local lake here for easy winging where I don't have to deal with rough water or my lack of fitness making me a candidate for coast guard rescue (joking, but not haha.) So, whereas I'd normally surf if the wind didn't hit or died, now I need to buy a boat (not on your life), start fishing, or dock/rock start. The latter was my choice. Also, I have my old beginner Gong 1900 foil sitting in the garage and a plywood pump board I made a couple years ago and then dropped as I doupled down on winging.

I'll post more about it. But while I haven't nailed it yet, it's easier learn now than it used to be and really fun while you're failing. There are great YouTube videos on it and they really have changed the learning curve or at least that's how it's felt to me after three sessions.

Anyway, Beasho, get ready for questions. I'll post some pics soon.

Nice! Good to hear you're getting back on the horse.
Looking forward to read about the build process.

Cool idea!
I've thought about doing a similar thing and will share my thoughts for what its worth.

Do you need tracks?   I wouldn't think so with a dock-start board.   If you're going to put in wood stringers, what about using M8 threaded inserts?   You'd need a pair wider wood stringers, but maybe don't need to run the full length.  These stainless threaded inserts are pretty cheap - don't know the weight, but likely much lighter than tracks: https://www.mcmaster.com/94884A105/

How think a sheet of XPS are you thinking?  Are you thinking 2 layers of 6oz carbon top and bottom?

Thanks guys.

I actually did tracks (short ones) because I sort of couldn't figure out how to really waterproof the inserts. Maybe I'll try that if I do another one.

I gorilla glued the tracks to the stringers and we will see how that works. With pumping I'm not as worried about losing a foil as I might be in a wing board where I'll be in deep water so I didn't go crazy with the attachment, just glued and then laminating it all.

Gonna bag it this weekend I think. 2x 6oz carbon and a strip of 6ozdown the middle of both sides. Then 4oz glass over it.

It's so small I'm not too worried about weight really. My board now is plywood!!!
