Probably $100-$150 in materials here depending on what you have/buy. Pump is $40--$75 online.

I'd add an output hose/pipe to keep oil out of your shop but that's easy or runit outside when you use it.

A standpipe on the outlet can capture and recycle the oil. I made mine about six feet tall with a drain trap at the bottom to collect the oil so it could be poured back into the pump. I stopped using it when I got a dry vac pump. I'd also recommend as large a receiver tank as you can make. If it's big enough you can run the pump intermittently, cutting off the inlet backflow with a solenoid valve and using a cheap vacuum switch with a relay to control the pump and valve.

Can anyone tell me if this vacuum switch will work? The one in his setup was about the same price as the pump.

It will work--that's pretty much the standard vacuum switch that folks use. Needs a relay, the current capacity if low. And you can find it a lot cheaper than that (I think). I paid less than ten bucks for mine, but it was years ago.
