flat water start on a hand made foil
« on: February 22, 2019, 11:34:11 PM »
finally got some photographic evidence of my recent foiling endeavours. Im fairly sure this is the worlds only flat water start on a hand made foil. by hand made I mean no computer design, no cnc shaping or 3d printing. purely conceived, designed and shaped 100% by hand. im using a less than ideal 7'9 converted surf sup with the tracks set waaay too far back on the board, once my new 5'10 custom is finished it should be a piece of cake to attain flight

Strong work  !!!!!
Now that's a Training Program.
Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

I wouldn't call it pretty BUT you take the cake for ingenuity and getting it done!

Love that the video is even Sasquatch grade.  The photos do it justice.

Now the rest of us have to catch up!  8)

Well done. Now just find a big passing boat and hop onto it's wake.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

WOW! That is some serious effort to get flying! Well done.
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

There's a reason I don't do this but I forgot what it is. Oh, yes, no handy defibrillator.

I'm not sure how and why you go by container. The only thing I saw
was outburst of crazy power and energy. Nothing contained in this clip,
even the water couldn't contain you and spat you out :D Right on!
in progress...

The mental aspect of SUP - I can only imagine doing that. I need to ice my shoulder just from watching it.

Way to go! Too Stoked for you!  Very, Very nice looking wing.  Would love to here the dimensions and foil shape used if you are OK with sharing.  I'm making my flatwater start/downwind wing right now.  Mine is 41" wide, 9.5" cord in center using a NACA 4415 which will end up a NACA 4416 when complete.  I cant wait to do the work required to get this to fly in flatwater.  The build process is fun, keep it up.

bigger is better! if youre only going to use it for flat water then i see no reason to not go 12, 13 or even 1400mm span. this one is 1100mm x 250 x 35 ish give or take a mm. for strictly low speed foiling you can go super thick too, ive hjad foils nearing 50mm thick that would fly at walking speed behind a boat quite happily but you do sacrifice alot of top end speed
