Making Waves

We needed some artwork for a spot in our renovated guest bath. After years of mostly computer graphics I decided to go back to the drawing board...pun most definitely intended..... I used to sketch a lot...like all the time. I had almost pantograph like hands when I was a kid. It's what got me started in my career as a drafter/designer.

I had bought a small pencil sketchbook...a collection of colored pencils and some paint pens. I like them because it's the easiest most forgiving medium for me as a hack artist. I have my old drawing board setup in the garage.

I Googled surf graphics and found one I liked. BTW...if you would like a print much of the much more skilled original version of this done in watercolor with a sunglass wearing dog surfing the wave I can point you there. I think I'll buy one anyway...

In a weird coincidence, unbeknownst to me, my wife had bought a frame for the spot. I had already trimmed down my sketch and was thinking of building a simple frame when she told me she had one....perfect fit..... ….and she said I nailed the colors in the bathroom....points earned.....
