Pretty cool to see Kai SUP surf Slater's wave...

How fun would it be to have a SUP surfing contest on that wave?

The 'Ranch' has long been a place of California surf lore. It's private land along the coast, north of Santa Barbara. Kelly Slater's 'Surf Ranch' is more like 'West World' for surfing. I'm not sure 'Surf Ranch' should be the name. More like 'Surf Farm' in B F Egypt. How about 'Surf Lemoore' or 'The Wave Farm'?
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Went to the surf ranch on Saturday for the WSL event.
That wave is for real.  Bigger and meatier than I thought it would be.  Water looks like it is about 3' deep and if you make a mistake that white water lip will make you pay, driving you to the bottom.  3 minute wait between waves means no lulls like the ocean.  The wind direction and strength changes the wave.  The left was  folding till the end section, but the right was the barreling beauty we see in the vids pretty much all day.

It was fun day of great surfing. The WCT pros made it look easy, but I don't think that wave would be that easy to surf.  After surfing two waves back to back, the pros were definitely winded.  I know they can change the size of the wave, but what we saw was the max that wave will be. Size was 2-3' overhead and was similar to a good day at Lowers.
As to the event, the format was really good, a team event. We saw some great surfing. They really blew it on the food and beverage front though.  4 food trucks to feed 6,000 people?  Took 2 hours to get our poke bowls.  Beer lines were better.  Music was ok.  More grandstands needed.

Still, overall a fun day.  We will probably pass on the WCT event in September, unless entry is free.  $100/ticket was pretty pricey, but we all wanted to see that wave in person.  The wave did not disappoint.  And to all the haters out there, if given the chance to surf that wave, you would in a heart beat.

Given the consistency of this wave, how would guys like Kai, Zane, Sean, Mo, etc. look like in a SUP surf contest compared to the WSL guys?

Would the SUP guys look like turtles? How big is the performance gap? We know progressive SUP surfers can barrel and catch airs too. This wave can really show us the difference or similarity.

I hope the APP or Waterman League already has this venue in mind. Do they have the funds/sponsorship to run an event at Kelly's Ranch? Would WSL even allow it?

It would be super interesting to see a cost breakdown creating the wave including how much energy it takes to pull that set at full velocity.
