Unfortunately I was running to a meeting right after I posted the link so I wasn't able to watch but from the results it seems that he came in 2nd in his heat but it was a low scoring heat overall:

Looks like he will be surfing in Round 2, Heat 6.  Does anyone know how surfers advance in these early rounds? E.g. Are they elimination rounds with top 2 advancing?
