SIC F14 (14' x 30") as a downwind board for a 70kg paddler might be  a little bit on the "big men" side but always worth trying. Bullet V2 is otherwise a good board, I think that there was one advertised for sale a month ago on Craigslist but might have gone.

The Sonic 24" on Craigslist in Langley at a really good price had me considered also but I would need one size up for sure.

Never tested the F14 firsthand but was in a Britannia DW group a couple of years ago.  A first time paddler was with one of my DW buddies.  He was maybe 200+ lbs.  He was falling off from time to time but made it in eventually.

Would suspect it would be a little big but pretty stable.  But really depends how rough and windy it is.  If rough it might be just right.  If docile maybe too stable.  The Bullet V2 is a good board provided you have ok reaction times.  But some heavier lads found that board a bit too tippy with not enough volume.  So they went up to the F16.

Here is an old vid showing the F14.  The noob seemed pretty happy with it.

Bob - Starboard made a 14X28 All Star, marketed as downwind specific. It's crazy stable.  It has a slightly different nose than the others in the range, and scuppers.  Interestingly enough, the narrower 27" All Star was 324L, and the 28" was less volume, at 309L.

Thanks Dusk

Yes I had been looking for a starboard allstar. Out of my price range new and rarely come up used. It looks like I will be going with a Riviera 14’x26” down wind board. Might take a bit of time getting my feet under me but it really can’t be less stable than my 27” domed decked 10’ Laird. I am hoping that it will be quite a bit more stable. Will let you know how I get along. It should be a lot of fun on windy days when the surf is blown out. A new adventure and Wendy is happy that I won’t be taking my 8’10” surf sup out in big wind and trying to downwind it. As usual Wendy was right and it was not a well layed plan.

Cheers

Very nice! Those Riviera's look like great boards.

...and I'm imagining what an 8'10" board must be like in big wind... wow.
