"Perhaps they were ask just none of them were keen?"

Hmm?  It appears none were asked nor invited.  Def Annabel was keen.

That exclusionary mentality makes no sense. The competitors should include the top winners of the year's pro events, men and women. Of course some sponsors exemptions for those multi-watermen and waterwomen. I know what it's like to paddle a 14' board in a 8' face. If it's bigger than that, you can throw skill out the door. It's who will be the luckiest to just make it. If it's 15'+ everyone one will need a support ski and boards will be snapped in two. Starting outside is going to take the bulk of the excitement out of it for sure.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Here is a post from Ian Wallace on Facebook.  Ian is one of 2 top Dogs on SUP's at Mavericks.  He and Haley had Mavericks to themselves realizing that they could catch the outside sets when no laydown paddler was fast enough back in 2008 and 2009.  He lives on Ocean Beach.  As he says 12ft @ 18 seconds will be TOTAL CARNAGE.

2nd Photo of Ian is what OB may look like on Friday.

Perhaps they were ask just none of them were keen? It wouldn't surprise me, how many female racers/surfers are there that could handle it? Enough to make a race?

What? This makes no sense. I watched last year and handling those waves were all about technique. Lenny made one mistake in the last beach exit and lost the lead to Connor. There were guys that had made it off the beach at that time..but that had nothing to do with strength.

It also seems weird this is a promotional event because they did a horrible job promoting it and even worse at keeping people informed.

Pretty sure AA has plenty of strength -> in addition to impeccable technique skills and stamina.  She is really kinda pissed not to be invited.

Anyone know if they are live streaming it?  I tried to watch last year but it wasn't streamed.

If I make it over I can see if I can stream from my phone....but quality will be thereafter. I bet you would be able to see the close to shore carnage. But pretty much nothing far out.

That would be so cool!  I don't know why Red Bull doesn't film and stream the whole thing.  I searched for it all last year and only got the summary video.
