SUP surfing coaches
« on: September 25, 2017, 09:13:31 AM »
Sunday was a great day for surf here and I had a blast. Something was bugging me though. I feel like I've reached a plateau. Most of my rides tend to be similar. I can even see it in the few pictures that I have of my surfing....most look the same...even when I'm on different boards. I feel like I need some good video of a session with pointers to what I can do better/different.

You just need one stylish move Bob. It will be your token Stoney move. Style surpasses flashy flexibility.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Erik at Progression Project does some cool video break-downs.  He'll even run over your own footage if you have any to send him (I'm not sure what he charges for that).  He runs the Blue Zone camp out of Nosara but moved back to Florida earlier this year for some medical treatment for his wife (I think all things are going well with that).

I think that's definitely the way to start. Thanks for the offer.

The progression project vids look awesome...already found some stuff to focus on. I'll look into sending him some footage.

Stoney.... I'd be happy to coach you whenever you want,
I can generally see things that people may not realize they are doing.... as well as shoot you with my Kook hat cam and beach cam to go over.

I rarely say anything to people unless they ask.... but if they ask, I usually have some suggestions.

Most of the time, at a plateau, the things I notice are very similar between SUPsters... and they are easy to change if you really want to.

As you improve, I have ideas to help people push harder and change their expectations.

For a small retainer.......  ;D ;D ;D

I was lucky enough to live where Erik moved and have been working with him one on one a few sessions. I have improved so much in a short amount of time. Went from a 10' barge of a board down to a 120L 7'8" simsup over the summer. Techniques that he taught me have allowed that to happen. He is a very good teacher and sees things quickly that will help a lot. Apparently i dont bend my knees much when surfing and i never knew that 20 years of surfing. That change has helped more than anything alone. I would send him an email and see what he thinks. It's very reasonably priced for sure.
