GoPro Video Editing Software & YouTube posting tutorial
« on: August 06, 2017, 10:51:54 AM »
I've only created a handful of videos using the GoPro  ver 2.5  free video editing software, so I'm still a noob with it. I've used other editing software 'Movie Maker', 'IMovie', and 'Pinnacle'. They all do the same thing, but the GoPro editor has built-in controls that are specifically for a GoPro camera. I still have a lot to learn with this editor, but the following tutorial should help those struggling with the editing software.
As always, please feel free to correct, expand, and elaborate on this tutorial thread.

Here we go....
It's not overhead to me!

The music part gets a little sticky with copyrights, licensing and credits. If you use any published artist, it's a guarantee that it is protected music. You cannot use it on your video. I did it once, and they slapped my hand but let that one video slide. "If it happens again, they will boot me off of YouTube." Anyway, there is plenty of Free and even cheap .mp3 music online that works just fine. That's a whole business in itself.
"NOTE" Some of the free music asks that you post their 'Credits' at the end of the video. You just create another Title clip. Then cut and paste their info in it and drag it to the end of your movie line.

The pre-made Templates threw me for a curve when I was first trying to make a video. It's like you have to deconstruct a video and substitute your clips?
I said forget that, I'll just start from scratch. That to me was easier. I haven't ventured any further into the Templates area of the program.

Wow that took a lot of work, very nicely done.  I hope this helps others get over the learning curve of GoPro's editing software.

I became frustrated with GoPro's software when I was trying to use images that were not taken with a GoPro ( Cannon DSLR ).  I am now using iMove that came with my Mac.  Have not tried using stills from other devices yet but have been told it's not an issue.  I can't remember exactly what my work around was with the GoPro software but it had to do with changing the file name to the same formate as a GoPro file to trick the system to accept it.

Lopezwill,
Glad it helped. I've used the basic Mac video editing and it is easy to use. If you have a Mac, that's probably the way to go. For windows, there are a lot of options. I've used an older version of Pinnacle and currently have PowerDirector10 , but find the GoPro Studio the most compatible and for me the easiest to use. The PowerDirector10 doesn't recognize the .MOV files I shoot with my Canon DSLR, but the GoPro Studio does. I don't want to convert all my .MOV files before I can load them into my video editor.
I'm comfortable using GoPro Studio, so I'll stick with it:)

Have been using iMovie forever after trying Final Cut and Vegas in the early days of Mac.  Does perfectly ok basic edits for 60p 30p or 24.  However does not like 60i natively.  Back in the old days AVCHD was a hassle for MAC.  But finally found an old version of iMovie works best with a few simple workarounds.  After rendering in huge file size PR422 -> change codecs and email out to family and friends.  Found PR4444 was simply not worth it.  Works a charm and can pump out vids fast and easy.  Best is can use music that I like.  Used to post on YT long ago -> but found the music restrictions way too limiting.

Have used GoPro Studio as well but like the old iMovie app better.  Probs because the workflow is 100% sorted and is very familiar and very reliable.  Do need CPU horsepower to render full size and playback fast and clean -> so a quad i7 is mandatory especially when transcoding PR.  Back in the old days our duo core would choke and sputter with 60p.  Haha.  ;)
