I have a new 14x 29 Glide for downwinding with friends..

and a new vid with some new music from a couple of local Melbourne lads called The Teskey brothers.

Nice times and nice music. How do you like that Glide?

Area 10

Very nice.

So, what do you use for downwinding with strangers and enemies? ;)

The video shows the undoubted benefits of stability and planing area. It's so nice sometimes to be able to relax. Are you faster on average on this board or your 14x28 Maliko?

Lovely looking board. It looks to have changed in design from the original 14x29 Glide. How much does this Glide weigh? I notice you got help with carrying it at the end ;)

I have the new shape 2018 Maliko on oder (and also the new 122 windsurfing foil board and foil) so I put my 2017 Maliko up for sale thinking it could take a while to sell.. and it pretty much sold straight away.. leaving me with no DW board till they arrive in September.. So decided to buy the Glide because when I had one a few years ago I loved it.. It has changed slightly and from memory it seems the nose is a bit softer/rounder and the big concave in the tail seems new.

I'm not sure what the weight is but it's pretty good and noticeably lighter than the heavy GS version.. It's very stable and doesn't have that initial quick tip that so many boards have these days.. The nose goes under very easily but does it without a splash or any slowing.. The flat'ish rocker does require some footwork the keep the board in trim and prevent deep nose dives..

It doesn't have the acceleration or speed of the Maliko but it glides really well and seems to carry its speed better.. It's not what I call a race board but my DWers with friends are very casual and it's a fun and easy board to paddle.. I'm guessing it's DW ability will get better as the wind gets stronger and should be heaps of fun in nuking conditions..

It will be very interesting to see what the new Maliko is like.. I've heard it's pretty different so I wouldn't be surprised to see a little more boof nose and I'm hoping for a little more volume.

Yeah DJ, the Maliko rumour mill is in full swing. It seems that what we know so far is that the 2018 Maliko is either more flat water or more downwind oriented; it either is still low volume or is higher volume; and the nose is either completely different, or just tweaked a bit. And we have no idea what the construction will be. So, like Trump's plans for "the wall", it is all totally transparent ;)

Nice video DJ. It seems this glide shares some DNA with the Maliko in the nose area,
is that the case or is it just optics?

As for the 2018 Maliko, the color combination of your top in this video will match perfectly
with Naish's new color theme for that board.
in progress...

Always enjoy seeing your DW videos. You have a nice new DW board. Hope you will make another video with your riding it.

As always, thanks for sharing your DW videos here on the Zone.

Need those for DW school boards.

"Paddling position: place feet in the red zone please.

Moving back and forth: only place feet on the yellow line please.

Grey zone:  reserved for advanced aft command deck maneuvers."

Simple. Easy.

[edit to add] For those whose first name isn't Mo [and elderly wannabe's like Yugi] you may place feet near the red zone.

So which team won on the 2nd run DJ? Orange or Yellow?

Naish still spancering you even if you race for the orange team occasionally?

Nice vid DJ. As per the Naish website, it seems the weight of the GTW Glide is the same or a touch lighter for 2017 at 31.3 pounds, but the GS got even heavier this year at 36.9 pounds compared to the previous model with a listed weight of 35.3 pounds. 37 pounds for a 290 litre board is very heavy for a standard construction.

Still love my Glide and this new design will be fun to try out.

Area 10

37lbs???!!! Really? If so, Naish are going backwards with their constructions.

I still own a 2010-11 Glide. It is light and super-durable. Miles better construction than what they are offering now IMO. Progress?

I still have my 2010 Glide. When certain boards are considered historic in the development of the sport, I think the first gen Glides will be on that list, as downwinding classics. I still think that the shape of those early Gides, with the "elf shoe" nose rocker, is more suited to a dedicated downwind board than the flat rockered, admittedly faster paddling, boof nose boards of today.

They still have grand-children :-)

There are so many type of boards to down-wind now....
You can:
* Clog it with Ace
* Spoon it with prone nose
* Elf it with banana rockers
No wonder we want so many boards.....
