new toys ( L41 ST)
« on: April 07, 2017, 06:18:52 AM »
Ok so I picked up a few new toys recently.  I basically buy most stuff used or on sale along with a change in jobs.  So lets get to the list of new fun stuff.

L41 ST:   711  by  30.5 by 4.5 thick  128L.  Bought used but in almost new condition. Bought last month.

So now to ride reports:

Rider dimensions: 510 190-195, athletic

711 L41 ST.  OK , dont see a lot of these on the used market here in Florida.  I saw this one and blew it off. I have no idea why. I looked at it again about a week later and a light bulb went off.  It is  128 liters and I could have gone a little smaller but the additional volume will help here in Florida with some of the mushy surf.  The first day I took it out it was waist high with occasional chest high sets.  Of course, it was glassier in the morning and by the time I got out, it was starting to get bumpy as the breeze picked up.  Took a few minutes to get adjusted.   Started catching a few waves with it.  It was fun. Fast.  Real carvy feeling to it.  Turns where I want it to go.  Tight carves but not real snappy. Only got a few waves on it before it was getting bumpier and I switched boards.   The second day I had it out was a little bigger than waist high with some chest high sets and even a few larger sets.  Had a hard offshore wind which was really hanging up the lips and me trying to get into the waves.  Glassy conditions but the waves were not lining up that well and the tide was wonky so the waves were a little on the mushy side. No rides with more than a turn and a floater on. I dropped in on one head high set hoping to get to the shoulder but a peak broke also in the direction I was headed so it was just straight drop but the board handled it with ease.  I was running the controller quad set of fins that seems standard with all the L41s.  This board definitely has a lot of potential and I cant wait to get into some waves that line up a bit.  Surprisingly it seems like these shorter boards pop up and over the white water easier.  The handle is decent, not great, not a big ledge type like on the jimmy lewis or coreban boards.  it still has some ledge  but not as deep.   The board weighed in at 17.6 lbs with the fins and pad on it.

That board is a spitting image of my latest Stretch.

Oh!  Because Stretch made them both.  The carbon rails make the thing bomb proof, or so the theory goes.  I have an older L41 that is constantly taking whacks to the rails and in need of repair.

I had carbon rails on my ST and I smacked the rails a lot with my paddle. Minus a some white marks, there was no damage to the rails. My friend owns the board now and he is notoriously hard on boards. No worries with that ST. Looks almost brand new.

L41s are interesting boards. I love the speed, but they aren't really snappy for the first few turns--I blame those straight rails and flattish bottom--but once you have them up to speed they turn great--like a wakeboard.

That double concave isn't very "Sims".
Ponohouse is for sale: http://www.ponohouse.com
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I can't argue with you there, but they do put a big smile on your face with speed and turning ability. :D

Totally agree! I sold mine to my buddy (it was a bit too big for me), but I borrow it ever chance I get.
