Thxs to all for your great input,
Indeed I am talking about Punta de Lobos, and 20ft faces.

I have ridden big days on my Oxbow 10', it works ok in these conditions but there must be better I am sure (control, earlier take off, etc...)
now I will change it for a shorter board and think I may need a second one just for the big days.

Naish is the easiest to get here, thxs the Windsurfing distribution.
So would have loved to hear from someone who had actually ridden that board in serious conditions.

Stability is a though point for GUNs as they tend to be narrower.

Bill, Nash has two 11'6" boards, a conventional & a big wave gun.

Ah, yes, I should read a bit more carefully. I have NO experience with the Naish gun.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Aloha Arnoud... Stability is very important for boards of this nature. Too narrow of a nose and tail will cause an oscillating effect. This is an 11'6'' I made for Northern California. Cold water, strong currents, wind and a rider at 200 lbs. with 25 lbs. of rubber. 11'6'' x nose 17.25'' x 29'' x tail 15'' x 4.75 thick.

Sorry.. Did the same pic twice....My suggestion would be to find an EPS manufacturer and epoxy distributor and make your own, what is best for you and your conditions.....BF

Now compare those pics with the Naish Gun.. (for those who've not seen one)

..and the rails are also very thin.

I have plenty of pics if you would like me to post them.

DJ, that's a pretty funny quote after looking at the photos you posted.  Obviously thin is a relative term when we are talking about SUPs though.

Arnaud Frennet

Thxs for all the pix
the Naish looks great but much smaller...

very difficult (and risky) to have a custom one build here

will keep looking and I may be back with more question,

now going to the beach, the Swell that hits HI on Jan 15 is arriving this Weekend,
it is much smaller now but has a great period still and NW orientation which creates very fast and hollow waves here.

Hasta pronto!

Arnaud,
My experience with Naish boards is excellent.  They are the best of the 6 boards I've owned in the last few years.  The Naish 9'6" fish is magic.  So, when I wanted a distance/speed board, I bought the Glide.  Also magic.  The construction quality is excellent and they are highly durable.  Hope this is a help, Terry

More related stuff...

Haley Fiske Mavs... "This wave was the biggest in a 5-6 wave set. It was the biggest set in the 2-3 hours that I saw out there. I think twiggy made the 1st wave of the set. On the 2nd wave somebody went and got murdered. The 3rd wave another guy got murdered and I think his board was in pieces. I let the next 4th wave go and it went unridden. This wave was the biggest of the set and it swung real wide. As I made the drop I could see 2 to 3 guys bailing their stuff and I remember thinking. Those guys are f*#*#d!"   He also told me, "The board is amazing..."

On this model..  12' x 28-7/8" x 4-7/8"

Ikaika Kalama and Mel Pu'u have also been charging on it.   All we need is more big waves to show what this thing can do.    I rode this model in smaller waves than it was intended for and its definetly turnable for how long it is.       This thing gets in early AND can handle super steep, barreling sections at speed.        I'll post more pics later in another thread about it...    I don't bring in a whole lot of them so they are mainly for the hardcore of the hardcore or for those who order it.

I'll  also add there are more guys now charging bombs.    If you're gonna buy something that puts your life on the line make sure it has been tested in the kinds of conditions you are looking to put YOUR life on the line.      Robbie Naish charges big waves so you can be confident that 11-6 has been tested...

OOPS!!    I thought we were talking much bigger...   Yeah, the 12' gun we make and Naish 11-6 are probably better suited for bigger than 20' faces.

Here in Hawaii most guys ride 9-0's to 10-6's in 20' faces.   The bigger guns will however allow you early entry...

This is a 10-6 and most of our guys were riding 10' and under boards this day...

Aaron Napoleon on a 10' basic all around board.

Harold Ige who shapes for Naish knows guns and gun rocker.    The 11-6 NAISH will work just fine in 20' faces and much bigger no doubt.

Arnaud Frennet

Thxs Blane,
great pix!
I also think we can handle most boards up to 20ft faces, but then when its over that you never know how big it can get and some days you want to be ready for that biggest wave out of the biggest.
Where can we find the your 12' on the US mainland?
