What type board (type of nose)

Been looking at a Bote Lowrider with Displacement Nose.

I understand the purpose of the nose.  (To help cut thru the water and chop).   I will be paddling on freshwater lake and river.   River can get a little choppy with the funnel effect of the wind.    But is this design something that I would really benefit from.  Any Pro's vs Con's.

Hello, what is your size and weight ?  for such conditions a "wave-piercing" nose works well as long your board is long enough, better go on a 14 footer, or above even if light-medium weighed  persons can be ok with a 12'6'' and such nose design, it may work better with reduced width and wetted surface.

The advantages of a displacement (aka wave-piercing, axe-bow etc) nose is that it is generally faster and more efficient in flat water. The disadvantages, compared to a planing nose or surf type board are: loss of stability, susceptibility to side winds and chop, plus there can be a loss of tracking because of rail steer (ie. if you don't keep your board flat in the water it will tend to veer to one side - which can be useful if you know how to use it but annoying if you don't).

If you paddle most of the time in flat water (by which I mean that the wind is below 15 knots, and waves or chop on the water are no more than about ankle high, and not in whitewater) then a displacement nose's advantages will generally outweigh the disadvantages. As you get further away from those flat water conditions, the issue of which nose design is best becomes a lot more complicated.

What conditions will you be in generally?

..acer.  I bought this used to have a Dog Sled, and it's pretty decent, (2013 model?) but having been a sailor since the late 60's I was thinking; "God ugliest bow I have ever seen.."  Still is to the eye, but it splits chop like a Ginsu.  There's not a lick of porposing. They, and others, seem to have stepped up the 'ugly' with new models but I guess it's the correct 'tool for the job', eh?!

For me, this Tahoe flatwater paddles much better than a very long surfboard shape - like a 12' Laird - that also crushed the scale at 36lbs. This Tahoe is stable as a sidewalk.
