Thanks Beasho
Looks like a great upgrade from GoPro, but the field is tightening, especially if SoloShot3 every gets delivered.
Still, there are things that a GoPro type camera can do that make it a valuable tool.
From what I've seen, GoPro is still the best of this genre.
I imagine that this is competitive with the Sessions, now that it has shed the housing.

We just need to get more innovative with mounting options

Seems like GoPro is feeling the heat and upped its game.  May need to check this out especially being priced competitively.  IS and GPS may come in very handy if implemented well and does not kill the battery too fast.

Wow, they really picked it up, and added some features no one else has thought of (that I've seen). Voice control--very cool. My biggest problem with GoPro has been customer service, though I confess, the service from competitors hasn't been a lot better. Except for Mokacam, who replaced the first cam they sent me without a quibble.

The drone looks very good, the feature set is good, the detachable gimbal is an excellent idea, as is moving controls to the attachment arm.

All in, very impressive. They've pulled ahead of the competition, which is huge for them. they already had momentum and market share. They didn't jump way ahead, but sometimes that's a bad idea anyway. You can spend a fortune developing features no one wants.

On our last family holiday our daughter used the GoPro extensively.  With this new model - without a case - and voice control - it should be real good.  Proper sound quality has always been a huge con.

Ticks all the important boxes that were missed before.  And seems to have hit its stride.  But have they squashed all the bugs?  That will be the question.

I posted this on the thread Offshore started as well, but I'' just stick a copy right here:

I have a surplus of action cameras now, a bunch of kickstarter campaigns came through all at once, and they all have better specs, better performance, and better form factors than the GoPro 4. But this offering definitely puts GoPro a jump ahead. It's probably near the limit for what can be squeezed into a box like that with current technology and manufacturing experience. I suspect the first units will have some problems, though the heat issue of a sensor that size might not be one of them. Getting them out of the case should help that.

The days of fuzzy video from action cameras is over. The drone offering is excellent too--they must have hired some of the leading experts to put that feature set together with their first offering, though they aren't offering anything innovative there, just state of the art with good form factor, good feature set and nice UI. The stick is clever and will be copied by most drone companies that currently supply gimbals. It's something I thought of a few years ago. How many gimbals do we have to buy?

The leading edge in the drone world is obstacle avoidance. Follow me and autonomous flight is limited if your keep running the drone into trees.  I expect waterproofing will become more important as use expands. I bet the gimbal isn't waterproof, though they could relatively easily be made so. Stepper motors don't care much about water except for the bearings, which can be sealed, though at the cost of some "sticktion" and resultant jitter. Not an impossible design challenge, just needs enough demand to make it worth solving.

In all, I'd say they saved their bacon and built the camera they needed to build. If I wasn't looking at a box full of dead GoPros and a handful of high-spec non Gopro cameras I'd be first in line.
