Ribbed shaft hurts hands

I have a new ke nalu mana that i am getting familiar with. Love the blade so far. Love the flex of the 100flex shaft. But the ribs on the shaft hurt my hands after about an hour of paddling. It is when i switch sides and slide the bottom hand up the shaft that bothers me. After about an hour the ribs start to feel very sharp and abrasive, and even stop my hand sometimes as it is sliding. I dont have particularly tough hands, so maybe that is part of the problem. Anyway has anyone ever detuned the shaft with a quick pass with some fine sandpaper? I tried it on the leftover shaft that i had cut off. Seems to make quite a difference. Just rounds the sharp edges a bit. Hate to compromise the integrity of the shaft however.

Sure. Actually the old assembly videos show that. I used some superfine sandpaper used for cleaning pool cues to take a little edge off the non-slip shafts. Don't go too far, the non-skid is a big benefit, but taking a little of the edge off won't hurt a thing.

Thanks ponobill. Ill try some superfine polishing paper and give it a try.

+1 on the sandpaper. Mine felt the same when I first got it. I sanded it down lightly till it took the edge off. You still want the grip though. It's fine now.
It's not overhead to me!

Ah probably time to give it a rest,  your hands and eyesight are too precious to lose.

I knew this one was going to go sideways.
