Uli Steamroller 11' questions.

I am 6'3 and weigh 265lbs, I did a bit of searching and it seems the Steamroller 11' would work out for my needs, cruising through mangrove channels, calm water and open lakes, I have no interest in surfing with it at the moment, I prefer sight seeing type paddling.

1) Question about adding D-rings when ordering the steamroller. If I wanted to have a cargo/bungee setup up front to hold down some gear or maybe a cooler, would four D-rings be enough?

2) Should I add D-rings in the rear, or is that not a good idea?

3) I ordered a Canyon cooler 22, its kind of like a Yeti, is the front of the board where you folks would put it, or towards the rear of the board?

4) I read here about Uli doing a "double skin" upgrade, is that still done, do you folks recommend it?

I probably have more questions I'll ask as I keep researching the Steamroller.

Thank you in advance for the help!  :)

At 265 and a cooler, I think you would do better with a bigger board.  I had an 11' steamroller at 195#.  I would put my 4 yo old on but it was not super stable.   Front will be better than rear.  Dunno about double skin.

You are a big guy. Get a big board. Probably 32" wide and at least 12ft long. And make sure it pumps up to at least 18psi.

ULI make great boards, and you could get them to make you a custom, if you want. But it's hard to beat the Red Paddle MSL construction for 2016, and at your weight you want something stiff.

I think I need more research, I'll look into a bigger board.

Thank you for the heads up, I'm going to surf the Red Paddle Co website a bit, I'll probably be back in a few days with some more questions but with a different model/brand.

Thanks again! :)

Take a look at the 12'6" Explorer. 32" wide and plenty of room. Just did the photos and video of it last week, review to come out soon. (Video might come up sooner - uploading now...)

I've been researching that same board after my last post in this thread, I was planning on purchasing it from your store too, that free paddle sealed the deal!

As soon as I get my butt home from work tonight  I'm pulling the trigger on the 12'6 Explorer!  8)

Thank you all again for the help, I'm glad I joined this forum!  :)

I ordered the Red Paddle Co Explorer 12'6 from GWS, I hope the weather is nice the day it gets delivered, going to take off a few days when it comes in and cruise the mangrove tunnels down here in South Florida. I'm pretty excited about owning a SUP, now my poor Ocean Kayak is going to collect dust, lol! :D
