Thanks Byron. Looking through the video again and again it is a good example of a smooth helicopter.

Thanks Noah, another question. It looks like it is very important the timing of when you change your feet for the second part. When do you know when to move to the back of the board?

It also looks important to get the paddle change right.

After the last freestyle session, only short and not so successful ,but I will take the side bites off and use a smaller fin so I don't have to lift the tail so much to spin the board.

I look forward to doing my first helicopter.

Russell.

Russell hopefully this next statement makes sense. My son said the key is dipping nose into the wave, whitewater, etc. In essence push for a pearl then shift weight. Does this make sense? If it doesn't sorry but this is what a 12 year old coneyed to me. We tried to go out to film helicopters from different angles but waves were kind of lame. We ended up shooting a skate vid with a couple helicopters for ya. He claims the weight shift to the front is the same. I am editing and will post later.

P.S. I will have some helicopter water shots within a week. Not experts just stoked on SUP.

Another angle of the master at his helicopters again...Start backside and end up fronside.....

I did my first backside helicopter yesterday on aprox. attempt # 20! On the next 40 attempts I had the board running backwards several other times but couldn't finish. Hard work. I removed the center fin and used only side bites on my 9'3'' C4 Sub vector. It seems you need the tail end pushed by the whitewater to get the board spinning?

I've been trying to do this move for the last few days, the waves were small, so I decided to use my C4 10' and try really hard, wave after wave until it's done.
I can do it front side, but I really need to work on the flow of the second part on the move, I don't use enought my paddle and my foot work is not good.
I haven't try too much back side, but I find it more difficult.
The good thing is that, this is the kind of move you don't need good wave so you can try this for hours and hours.
Here is a "inside vidéo"(at 1min20sec):

Good stuff here.  I am learning too and hit a few of my first helicopters on the 8'2" after about 100 plus attempts.  I have been really stoked on some little front side smacks to tail slides too.  I found that removing the center fin and leaving the sidebites works better than the other way around.  At least for me.

Good vid, I like the way he does the second part of the move with his feet, stylish for kid riding a 9'2! (Is it the standart PSH 9'2 or a custom?).

The Board is a standard PSH 9'2 AA hand glassed. The center fin is a 6.5 cutaway moved all the way back towards the tail.
