They did a wind tunnel test and their conclusion was that the aerodynamic difference is negligible with a very very slight nod towards fins up and forward...contrary to intuition.

Interesting...very contrary to intuition....I guess all those rocket scientists are wrong and I'll have to start shooting arrows backwards.... ;D

My two cents...

Isn't it the trailing edge of an object that produces drag-inducing vortices?
If so, then a more sreamlined "nose" poited backwards would be nice...and a front facing tail with a fin is not a bad wind spliting surface. ::)

aahhh...never mind...

I heard the Element was dead. I thought it would be a fine rig for me with the hose-out interior.

bob--Shouldn't make much difference, you always sucked with a bow anyway. Besides, you're confusing directional stability with drag.

You work under chief Dibble?

Of course I prefer to drive the big red one... I get to the water faster with the sirens going :D

I figure unless I get my tacoma up to 150 it won't really matter.. but you're right, consider me dope slapped

fin forward always looks a little clueless to me, I must admit, but I do it a lot, kind of randomly. A leftover from windurfing where you often had a mast base on, and if you put the board fin-down and rearward it was only a matter of time before you had a nice furrow in your scalp. One reason why I'll never do the shaved head thing--too many divots.

Shoots Bill - if the Element is dead I better treat mine a little better so it lasts longer.  I used to  be into old school 4X4s.  I had a '69 Jeepster Commando for years, and up until the Element I had a '76 International Scout and '74 Travelall.  I ripped out the carpet on the Scout and did a Line-X job on the interior so I could spray it with a garden hose.  I use an air compressor on the Element - don't want to fry up any electrics with water.

SD Ryan, no chief up here by that name.  Good thing I had 4 wheel drive today... 22 degrees and 12 inches of powder between me and the water...

Greatdane- Yeah sorry, after I posted I remembered he's chief in Olympia.  Bellingham is where I did ski to sea once.  Beautiful place, lots of water.  You're a stud to handle the currents and wind (and snow apparently).  It was gnarly enough in a kayak...

Check out the downward angle of the boards...Rack on Back is higher than the rack on the cab..6400 miles like that last winter in mexico better aerodynamics..18 mph..highway,,Go toyota..New Snows on my baby this week..

PonoBill,

I can't help but notice all of the slope planes you got hanging or are they models? I use to fly up in PV and point ferman, the last one I destroyed was a P-51. Forgot to check the controls for the aleron and elevator, down was down and up was up, went to launch off the cliff and ended up 20 ft down the cliff. Still a lot of fun but heart breaking when you crash.

I have a lot of slopers, but most of the stuff hanging is gas or electric. the Lear is a ducted fan electric--never flew it (never finished it) the P51 is gas, as is the Texan. I don't do much RC anymore, to busy playing in the water. Maui is a great place for slope gliders though. there's some places you could glide a cinder block. I built a SR71 that would be a lawn dart most places expressly for a spot on the SE corner that has a 60MPH vertical wind.

I think so. My wife bought it for me. I didn't like the way the elevator actuator worked (flex cable in a sheath) but never came up with anything better and lost interest. It's been hanging there for years.
