Trying to use the example of Tony Stewart and Kevin Ward, where Kevin Ward ran out onto the track, during a yellow, and got himself killed is just lame, they weren't racing at the time, but it did result in a rule change.  No more running out onto the track when you loose your temper.
A better example is this with Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski, they had been going at it for some time resulting in a crazy crash, but nobody was DQ'ed, it went down as racing, just like it was, IMO, at the BOP.  Trying to make the boys behave will only kill the racing end of this sport, then every bump will become a judgment call, and somebody will always end up pissed at the call.  Just let them race and trade paint, I'd hate to see it turn into some kind of a PC event.

If it ends up with fisticuffs on the beach afterwards, well so what, at least they aren't still racing, just be glad that Sunny Garcia wasn't in the BOP.
It takes a quiver to do that.

I don't see anything untoward in either riders racing in the Showdown, that slight coming together around 37.30 doesn't disadvantage Connor one bit and has got to be par for the course...if you are going to try and stop that you might as well set up lanes......

Around here we have a gentleman rule that says you should allow paddler next to you enough room to keep paddling, at starts and around buoys that can't always happen....Connor seems to be the aggressor at both Huntington and the BOP (which makes Kai retaliate), makes you wonder if there have been other prior incidents and whether they are both laughing it off now?

In tight quarters I can understand a bit of rubbing, but at the point of the race I mentioned above they were on a straight away in THE OCEAN. There was just no reason—other than the hope he'd fall off his board—for Kai to bump Connor's board like that. It's the equivalent of a runner using his hands to push the guy in front of him out of the way.

As for the nonsense at the buoy turn, again, slight rubbing is understandable. Ramming and running over is not.

I admire athletes who play hard. I do not admire athletes who sabotage others.

Is that video the same footage that was broadcast? it seemed to me like the bumping I'm talking about went on longer and was much more aggressive.....

Maybe it's more like this:

Around here (outside of races) we have a non-gentleman rule of dunking the other guy whenever his guard may be down. Keeps us sharp.

I believe this is the same footage that was broadcast, but I can't confirm. CBSSports is not among the 880 channels in my lineup.

There was plenty of more bumping during the competition, that's just one of the instances I made note of.

Weasel it was hyperbole. Don't call it lame or if I ever see you out in the lineup I'll grab your leash and yank it  ;D

Hardly anyone is aware of the Carl & Brad crash although we know this happens a lot. I've seen Days of Thunder. But more people have heard of the Tony Stewart crash. Point being Joe Blow and John Doe back in 20th place do the same stuff but no one cares because they're not winning and no one's heard of them. I'm sure with all this talk a rule change will happen and no one had to get killed over it.

There was talk on another thread how 'zoner's could recognize one another. Maybe this is a good one?

It always seems that when there is a rivalry between two top contenders, it builds a lot of interest for the spectators. Maybe  the next race will be billed as the trilla in Hawaii-illa.

Starboard via Matty is making a pretty strong point at 5:22 with the slo mo -

Watch Conner from 3:13 to 3:17. He had problems with his coiled leash and he lost time because of it. I think the calf high is the way to go.

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I thought I saw some waist releases too.

I do this kind of crap all the time. Mostly to my grandsons, but I've shoved bill footes board out from under him, stepped off my board onto his, and put my paddle between his legs when he dropped in on me. I don't know why, I just gotta. Maybe it's the same for Connor and kai.

On the other hand, payback is a bitch and I think billy is waiting for me to show my face at kanaha.

I also get bumped at races, even back in the nether reaches. On Sunday in the distance race a guy was bumping me in every buoy turn. Since the buoys were very far apart and I was on a rudder board that seemed very strange. When I finally needed to jump off to clear kelp I waited for him to pull up next to me. I said " hey, nascar, I'm going to jump off an clear my fin. Should I shove you off while I'm at it?  He just goggled at me. Clueless.

Heck with the Kai-Connor scrap, the wahine start is where the real action occurred, yikes!
Blow the start horn right when a set is coming in, yeah.
It takes a quiver to do that.

The gal in Jersey 45 or 49, that is standing on the inside of her board, which is parallel to the beach and gets picked up by a wave, (at 2:54 in the vid): OUCH!

Guess she didn't have a clue about the surf and what it does to a sideways board, not just any board, a boxy, long race board, that you're standing INSIDE of.  ???

Piros

Yeah that start for the women's was such a bad call....here come the sets..GO...
