went to mx last winter, jan - april, and was greeted with few waves, no lefts, and wrong-way winds for dawn patrol.  now i'm thinking about rincon, pr, and i'm worried that i might run into difficulties there as well.  a few questions, for those who know:

1/ i only surf waves up to head high, like 3'+, depending on hollowness etc.  if pr gets a big wave winter, will i be able to find spots that'll knock the swell down to my puny size?

2/ are the prevailing winds such that i can do dawn patrol sessions without a lot of bump on the water?

3/ i know there aren't many lefts in the area but for pete's sake there's got to be at least one, right?  or ... wrong?

thanks!

Ummm. Maui? Longer flight, but there's almost always somewhere to surf. In some ways it's better than Oahu. Big north shore is a spectator sport for a chicken like me. Maui seems to get better wrapped waves which are lightweight surf-able even when Peahi is breaking at a zillion feet.

Not sure if you foot problem permits downwinding, but when the surf sucks it's usually because the downwinding is great.

great idea bill but i need to stay closer to home, what with daughter and dog being here.  plus work.  work hated me going to mx last year and is only slightly less unhappy about pr.
