Adjustable werner paddles question...
« on: March 15, 2014, 08:41:56 AM »
Hola all,
I'm considering buying an adjustable paddle from Werner, probably the nitro s.  I'm just looking for some feedback from previous/ current owners of adjustable werner paddles.  The only adjustables I've ever used had the lever-lock or cam-lock style mechanism, which all seemed to work quite well.  I just want to know if anyone has had any issues with simple spring-loaded push button style adjustment on the Werner paddles.  I really like the cleaner design, but it also makes me a bit nervous.  I think QB uses the same adjustment mechanism as well.  Thanks in advance.

I've got an adjustable nitro, had it for 3+ years now and it's been great. I use it for flatwater and surfing and it's quick and painless to adjust - no complaints at all.

I have 2 Werners, a 2-piece Advantage and 3-piece Nitro. They work well and easy to adjust on the fly. Very happy with them.

I use an adjustible Nitro for surfing. Was the wife's paddle but she disliked the joint as it bothered her when sliding the hand down to switch sides. Solid paddle, proven technology for the adjustment. Windsurfing has used it for decades for adjusting booms and mast bases. The only negative is the need to slide apart the sections and clean out the salt buildup or it will lockup and prevent adjustment. Another big advantage (for me) is the pin system prevents any twisting so the handle always stays in line with the blade.

I have used the two piece Fuse and Nitro. The pin system is easy peasy, and the tolerances with the pin-hole are very tight. There is just the tiniest fraction of detectable movement, but it's a pretty solid system. Tried and true as they say.

A Nitro is around $40 more than the Soul-----are there good reasons NOT to go full carbon and save 40 bucks?
