Did our first little test run with the Garmin 305 this afternoon. I've still gotta get my son to help me with the loading of the software so I can post those cool Google maps and stuff but this is what we have so far.
Woogie did a downwinder on the Penetrator 572 in conditions that weren't ideal, about 2 feet of swell and 12-15 knots of wind. He ran in a Southerly direction with the breeze out of the ENE and covered the 5.56 miles to his home in 49 minutes. There were a few runs but not heaps and he fell 3 times, one of which he had to swim a fair way to retrieve his board (no leggie). By the way, each of these falls occurred on runs when he was trying to look at the GPS to see how fast he was going! Looking forward to some more and getting the thing organized for an accurate appraisal and will carry out a flat water speed test as soon as we have time......
                          Cheers, Stuey

They need to create a GPS that anounces the speed out loud.

You can change the display on the 305 so that the entire first display screen shows just speed in big numbers. Very easy to read at a glance. I have mine set this way.

You can also change the sample time for speed so it more accurately reflects the nature of paddling. When you're on a bike or running you might want longer sample times since you might not care so much about short bursts, but on a SUP board you might like to see if a change in cadence or foot position is causing a burst of speed.
