Haleakala was crystal in the morning yesterday so we drove up and I played with new Nikon waterproof AW1 cam.  Standing in same spot .... 1st pic is full 27.5 zoom with the included 11-27.5mm kit lens, which is about a 68mm equivalent for this cam with a one inch sensor.  2nd pic is 19mm or around 48mm equivalent (2.5 factor) and 3rd is full wide 11mm or 28mm equivalent.  I shot 1/250 shutter priority which means the cam figures out the aperture and ISO. That shutter speed because I was shooting handheld but also what I plan to shoot when I get out in the ocean.   In all three the aperture stayed at 5.6.  ISO in full zoom was 220, 200 in the middle and 160 wide open.

So far there are only two waterproof lens for this cam and I wanted to also get the sharper prime lens which is a F2.8-10mm or 24mm equivalent.  But they were unavailable yet. You may also use a much larger variety of non-waterproof lens on this cam but without a tripod and wind shelter 28mm equivalent is a perfect focal point.  Just means you need to get close.

I also have a polar filter on the lens.

Shot some vid of hang gliders taking off.  (See random about hang gliders) Video is going to be very limited zoomed in any more than full wide as there unfortunately isn't any IS (image stabilization) with either the cam or the lens.  (Nikon calls it VR)  I shot full wide with first launch and medium with last two since I didn't have to swing pan.  Wide seemed smooth enough but last two were a little shaky.  Anyway my learning begins.  Still working on a chest mount before I get into the water.

Beautiful day up on the mountain.
