I've been looking online for used sups and I came across a YOLO Coastal Cruiser 12' for sale. Do you guys think that is big enough to float someone in the 270lb range? I've got a surftech 11'6 now and I was looking for something that would float me a bit better. Looking at the specs it was ten more liters than my surftech and 6" longer. It is a little narrower at 31" vs 32" for the surftech.

At 270 only a 14 ft will do, anything less than that your just fooling your self !!!!

I disagree.  An all arounder around 200 liters will work.  My first board at 263lbs was a 10'6"x32.  And I've been susing an 8'10" demo at 245ish the past couple of weekends.

If you wanna race/go fast...then I'd agree with W.O.

To float you? Absolutely...I learned on a 12-6 x 31 Starboard cruiser...I was over 300 when I started. I've paddled that board in 3 CCBC's, I still have it (always will too). I run between 260 and 270 now...my list of boards is below. Of course it will float you....all depends on what you want to do with it.....the name suggests its use. A board like that should be in everyone's quiver. Something you can lend to friends, take out and cruise the coast, maybe pick off a few waves. Only issue I see is why do you want a board so similar to what you currently have. This is likely slightly tippier at 1" narrower and only 10 liters more...depends on where the volume is though. I've never paddled one but the shape looks very similar to my 12-6 which is a great all around board.

The real question is what do you want to do with this board?

Right now my supping  consists of just cruising around,  exploring various islands in Tampa Bay and getting a work out.I'm looking for a general all around  board .  I tried the bote board this past weekend and it felt much more stable than my board.  The boat isn't in my budget right now but I figured the extra length and volume of the Yolo might make it more stable and better in wavy conditions than my board.  I think my ideal board is an isup but a good one is more than I can spend right now and they don'tseem  to show up on Craigslist very often.

I agree with stoneaxe,I don't see enough difference in the boards to spend your money but a TEST paddle is the real decider.  My second board was a Pau Hana Big EZ. I island hop a lot also and this board is perfect for relaxing coastal paddling. I have Hobie ATR11 12'2 now and it has more glide and speed but not as stable as the Pau Hana even though both boards are 32".and Hana is only 11" even. Paddle a Yolo, paddle a Pau Hana Big Easy. I think you will love the Pau Hana and they show up used at shops and craigslist. Mine Ain't Not for sale ;D

sup_romer, I've been contemplating selling my Uli 14'.  Ping me a PM if you want to discuss it.

The 12 ft yolo will definitely float you - i'm 6'3 and was 250 or so when I got this as my first board.  It floated me just fine.  I had a friend who's 300+ and he was fine on it too.
