I could listen to Guthrie Trapp play all day long.  Maddening skills.

Two weeks ago the wife, and I were all excited to head to the LACo Fair to see some old time 70's favorites by the names of The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, and .38 Special all at the same show.

Well fortunately The Outlaws (my favorite of the three) opened it with a too short of a set of several of their greats ("There Goes Another Love Song", "Hurry Sundown", "Freeborn Man", and "Green Grass and High Tides") and absolutely killed it!! Even the young kids there in their mid 40's were loving it, and singing along to most all of them. ;D

Then Marshall Tucker Band took the stage and opened with "Dog Eat Dog World" with Chris Hicks on lead vocals who did a fine job on the song, so I thrilled that it appeared we were in for another great set from another one of my high school days favorites...boy, was I ever wrong. :o

It's been a while since I'd actually followed the comings and goings of the MTB, and I'm still not really sure what's happened to founding member and lead singer Doug Gray (drugs, ETOH, dementia, a little of all three?) but when he stepped up to the mic on the second song of the set...it took me a couple bars to figure out wtf he was singing (and the band was trying to follow), and it wasn't until they got to the chorus, and the rest of the guys harmonized with him could we recognize that he was attempting to sing "Fire On The Mountain". Oh goodness... :(

The stunned silence in the crowded was palpable, with everyone looking at one another in shocked disbelief of what they were hearing, but all just figured he needed to get warmed up a bit, and all would be just fine. Hmmm, too bad that wasn't to be the case. After a polite applause when they finish FOTM, they then went into their all-time most notable "Heard It In A Love Song"...and that's when the wheels fell completely off the bus. Doug not only couldn't sing in the melody of the song, he couldn't remember the lyrics, and just ad libbed at times with the other members glancing over in dismay (and disdain)...and that was it for the wife and I...at the end of the song we got up, and left the concert (.38 Special was my least favorite of the 3 so it wasn't a big deal that we missed them also).

Anyway, to finally land this airplane, and why I tell the story...tonight I stumbled onto the cover band Umphrey's McGee, who does a much better version of "Can't You See" than MTB themselves do (which we cringed at as we heard Doug Gray mangle it also as we left the venue).  :'(  Here's Umphrey's McGee's take on it....

Also being a Pink Floyd fan (saw Roger Waters do "The Wall" live in 2010) here's their pretty darn good cover of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Hope you enjoy...

Kinda random, but this is what Pandora was playing. The clear acrylic drum set was the bomb back then. I wanted one so bad.
