I  think there"s a need for it, so I wanted to post this topic. Alot of Zoners do the CCBC so maybe we could connect here to for some group paddles to help rev up the stoke for August.
I did 6 or 7 miles with Stoney Saturday and over half of that was side chop or straight into probably a 10-12 knot wind.  He definitely had the advantage upwind  on his VEC. It made me work harder than I otherwise would have alone. This was the first time I did a training run non solo, what a blast!

Saturday was def brutal. I did 16.39 miles solo. East Sandwich beach to end of Sandy Neck and back. Side chop, head and off shore winds nearly took me out to sea   :o

While Im not able to do the CCBC '13 I am local and can do training paddles with a heads up. It's always better to train w others, for safety and competition!

That was definitely tougher than just the miles would indicate. I hate side chop but when mixed with all the boat wakes it makes for a great balance workout. Paddling straight into it is definitely easier for me.

I went out early Sunday too, sunrise session. Couldn't join the crew for their DW run so went local from long beach. Even windier than Sat...paddled to the cove to check out the super low tides then DW to Browns Bank and then the long hard paddle back into the teeth of it...probably the longest 3 miles I've done. My shoulders are toast today. Finished off the day with a Supermoon paddle with Sue. Beautiful cruise as it rose over the cliffs.

On a side note...dinner at Sandy's was awesome. She keeps outdoing herself. One of the best pieces of Swordfish I've ever had.

Did a 15 miler on the York, Maine river with CCBC rookie Chad Hansen this past Saturday.  Nice day , perfect conditions and just long enough to know I am getting close to CCBC shape. Followed that up with an 8 miler around Gerrish Island (Kittery Point, Maine) on Sunday and another 8 miler today.

Taking advantage of the weather and tides and more importantly the lack of green heads who don't show up until next month.

Free thats an impressive run in Saturday's conditions here. Greg (Skyrocketinflight) another CCBC rookie reported laying down 20 miles in Boston Harbor and  getting hassled by the state police boat off of Logan airport.
Just a heads up to you guys that the Coast Guard is coming down hard on the PFD requirement. They blue lighted me with sirens while I was giving a tour on the harbor Fri. night to ask about PFDs. They also asked me about it on Saturday, although it might have been the harbormaster, as he was asking us from a dock.

That was the harbor master on Sat. They're good guys. I've talked with them a lot in the last 6 years. I had to call them the first couple of years when I used to go out in the winter because they would get all kinds of calls of a stranded windsurfer or someone on the ice.  They've been very helpful with the CCBC. Strangely enough they only push PFD's in the summer when the waters are thick with tourists.
I rarely see the coasties in Plymouth Harbor....it might have been the HM on Fri too. Their boat looks very much like a coastie unless you look close. That was the HM coming in as we passed the fishing boat docks.

Nice to hear folks are getting in the miles. I'll be looking for a couple of 10+ milers this weekend.....looks like there may be some great DW conditions. Maybe a long one if so.

Where do people do the Dowinders?Where do you meet from and go to?T

The wind this wknd is calling for SSW. I would love to try a Vineyard to Cape Cod DW. Anyone done that?

Who has rich friends with a mega yacht that wouldn't mind dropping us off? dont think it would be fun or allowed taking the ferry over there, carrying on a 14' SUP. Perhaps taking one car over and having a friend take it back on the return ferry once we get dropped off?

Thoughts?

Getting folks together for DW is a problem here...hard to get it going.

There's been talk about MV to the Cape but I don't think anyone has done it yet. Maybe Patrick at Bhan Pho? I talked to the folks at Patriot Shuttle last year about it. They'll take boards but it's more SE than SW from Oak Bluffs back to Falmouth, kind of a short run too. Never checked the ferry but they take bikes...why not SUP. It would be longer and SW to Hyannis.
Biggest problem I see is the heavy boat traffic...definitely want a group and blaze orange shirts.

Lots of possibilities.

I'm going to be on the Cape starting tomorrow. I'll be in Truro, but unfortunately with limited mobility. We (me, my wife, son (9), two girls (5)) only have one car, and I can't abandon them at our cabin.

I'll have my 11' NSP with me, mostly for surfing. Mostly we'll be at Corn Hill Beach and Head of the Meadow. I plan on a regular dawn patrol surfing at Head of the Meadow.

Anybody in the area?
