I got a good look at it at the Carolina Cup this past weekend.   I noticed that it was a fish form with the wide point well ahead of center.    I didn't want to interrogate him about it, but he said that it makes it unstable.   As he's the fastest SUPer on the planet, He wouldn't do it if it didn't make the board faster as well, defying conventional design that says a Swede form is faster.
The only reason I can think of for this is that it keeps the bow on top of the water in following seas.
The reason I ask is that Jack Bark gave me the prone paddling bug and now I have to shape one, and was thinking of incorporating this into my design.
     Thanks for your thoughts...
Beer is good for you!

Oh man, that is interesting!  I wonder if having the wide point forwards makes the board decelerate slower, as opposed to moving the wide point back of center leading to accelerate faster.  Somewhere there must be a tipping point, and once you know the size of your motor (i.e., Danny Ching's motor in this case), it becomes a math problem...where do I place the wide point so that the loss in acceleration(bad thing) is compensated for by a loss in deceleration (good thing).  I am assuming that in deceleration, the back of the board is more important and in acceleration the front is more important, which is probably totally wrong...but still interesting :P

Don't mean to hijack.  post just got the wheels rolling.  Cool looking board

I will pass on that design. Danny has amazing balance and a mere mortal like me won't be able to stand on that board.  :-[

I saw that board up close and frankly, I don't get it.  I don't think that board would have come in first place unless Danny had been standing on top of it.

Not sure if you saw the start of the race but Danny was standing and paddling way before anyone got through the surf. Board design is cool though.
