Curious if anyone on the Zone has heard of (or experienced) problems w/ the 2012 8'5" WASSUP?  Reportedly some problems w/ water entering the board via the mast insert and footstrap inserts?

Kinda a shame b/c all I'd ever heard about that board is that it's the ultimate one-board quiver.
Wondering whether it's a widespread problem or just internet rumor.   :-\

I had a RRD 9'2" in wood that was so poorly made just about anything would crack the rails. Twice I put a mast on it and both times carnage occurred, proving the first time was not a fluke. Maybe I just got unlucky, but the glass had essentially been completely sanded away where the upper and lower glass meet, leaving just some resin to hold things together. A paddle tap was enough to split it. Maybe their QC/QA isn't up to snuff?

On the other hand my 91L RRD FSW wave windsurf board has endured a lot of abuse and is still ticking.
Don't forget to bring a towel!

I was curious about this as well. sthmussailboards has the 8'5 for $699 shipped:

But they also say:
There have been some random issues with the inserts on the 8'5" model therefore we recommend this ONLY for SUP and to fill all footstrap inserts and mast base insert with silicone prior to use.

Supposedly they still offer warranty on the board. I was thinking the issue was with the mast insert ripping out rather than water intake. Didn't really get the specifics. I'd love to try it but the windsurf quiver is too big. :) Guess the Bic Jungle will be my no-wind windSUP until it dies.

I've sailed the 8'5 Wassup a fair bit and no issues so far, see my other posts in this section of the forum. I'm hoping it stays that way.

Hey Philn, which year board do you have?  My understanding it is the 2012 boards which had problems, nothing prior...

I've got an older one, think it is the first year they were produced.
