So, I bought my Fanatic Allwave 9'6" last spring with future hopes of putting a sail on it.  This weekend I was able to pick up a nice used package, and I am going to start learning how to windsurf on it.

I have a 5.2 and a 6.0 sail, and the standard thruster setup on the Allwave of 5.8 centerfin with 5.0 sidefins.

What size centerfin would help me the best while learning?  After my first practice day going upwind I had a hard time digging in and kept sliding.

Most windsurf boards have like 15" fins.  I was thinking like a standard 10" fin might give me a little more grip.

Or Futures has their 15" Downwind Fin.  Would that work?

Thanks for any input from you guys with sailing experience.

Glad you like your AW 9'6
Selecting WS fins for FF box you must be careful
First are you looking at flat water (single fin with plugs) or ultimately a wave app so a 2+1 set up?

Thanks for the reply Jim.  I love the Allwave, it's a great board.

I am new to windsurfing so I will probably stick to flatwater while learning, but I live near the ocean so I will probably be heading there as soon as I feel comfortable.

So probably a suggestion for a 2+1 set up that would help me in my beginning stages.

On my Fanatic Fly and Fanatic Pro Wave, I would put on a 10" SUP fin.  Like this one from ATX.

Setting it all the way forward in the fin box worked much better for me to windsurf since it could spin around to tack and gybe easier.

That big fin didn't work well for SUP surfing but it got me through learning to windSUPsurf  and avoided many long walks of shame since it goes upwind easier.

Eventually, you'll get the technique down to carve the windward rail while moving the sail forward.  It's a bit of an extreme but works great to get upwind regardless of fin size.

Keep at it and let's meet up for some windSUPsurfing!   My new sail arrived and I am ready to get it out for some tuning.

The Fin setup that works in waves (2+1)

FF Solus side fins carbon Kevlar honeycomb epoxy fin I add the Future Fin Surf 7.25 for upwind ability or 6" Surf for looser feel but you ave to be careful for upwind ability.

Lastly;
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCE run a fin bigger than 10" on Future fin box it an not take the torque
