We were pretty hot and heavy for a long time, spent a lot of time together, developed a deep and lasting bond...

NO not THAT EX!-dont have one!

You know, the prone surfing ex, ahhhhh she is quite lovely, lately ive been thinking of straying from my current steady, my SUP is so fun, outgoing, easy going, maye a little too easy?-you know, you get bored, want to change things up, rekindle that old flame!?...

Ok now im weirding myself out, thinking of getting some prone sessions in again, test out my back and see if it holds up, my back is the major reason i have not prone surfed in close to 6 years! 6 YEARS!-wow,

SO if i do, this is the kind of surfing i want to do, Mini-Simmons or as Infinity calls them, Tombstone.
Looks fun dosent it?, mellow, kinda lazy just going with the flow of the wave, tranquil almost, kinda like my grom here in this vid, except i would need a blown up mini and i would not surf anywhere near this good, but ya gotta admit, it just looks so fun!

And arent the lazy mellow dog days of summer the perfect time to get in a sesh like this?

I know what you mean, last winter I got out my monster JL a couple of times, and even took my Tilton for a spin. It was fun, and it felt good, but really it just pushed me harder into SUP surfing. The next day my back felt folded like a taco, and my shoulder pain woke me up in the middle of the night.

Worse yet it felt like I was sitting around all afternoon. I caught plenty of waves, but I realized that when I'm on a prone board I never move. On a standup I'm poking around like a 12 year old. Check out the lefts, paddle to the next break, what's that outside---gotta go check that out. Big school of bait, lets follow it and see if something whacks it--oh look, a nice set on the horizon, get back to the lineup...

On a prone board I sit and wait for waves. Kind of a microcosm of the difference between SUP and surfing--the part the haters don't get. Race, downwind, surf, fish, explore, sail, and just doink around. Infinitely more versatile.

If my surfing was even a fraction as good as your kid, I'd be out there right now.  Problem is, my session would be 2 hrs of floundering around and getting out frustrated.  I'd rather just go on an ocean paddle and enjoy that "having exercised" feeling later that evening.  Now that I've evolved to fully upright, I don't think I can go back to slithering around in the water.

I used to have a rule that I wouldn't surf (shortboard) unless it was chest high.

Against my better judgement, 2 weeks ago, I broke that rule.

Days like this remind of why I made that rule and how much I love to SUP. =)

SoCal, I think I'm gonna go the 5F route instead of the Simmons. I want to be able to shred in junky surf. http://www.infinitysurf.com/shortboards/5f/
Taller than most, shorter than others.

I feel you Jon. Standup has made me enjoy surfing again.  I don't leave home without at least a longboard and a standup.  In the last year I've purchased a new shortboard and a longboard, more evidence that sup is a good thing for surf retailers.

Over the last week I've been on my longboard equally as my sup.  Both are super fun and bring something different to the wave.  I know sup has made me a better surfer.  I still suck on the short board, complete newbie status.

It's all good... take a tip from Kai

Do EVERYTHING you can on, under or in the water!

Each is different, like brunettes, blonds & redheads... but all are great ;D

I have been wondering if my improved conditioning would overcome my 2 rotator cuff failures.
I would love to surf a long or shortboard again... and just may try soon!

Does that mean I have to quit this forum? :'(

I still get out on my p rawson 6-6, but that is only to accompany my twelve year old while she"s
learning.  This way I can stay close to her, keeps her at ease.  The waves are then too small for
the board but the smallness of the board is a nice trip back to how it was.  As Bill says though, the
shoulders scream that night.  What I actually find most enjoyable are the duck dives.  They are the
only thing I can't really duplicate on a sup.

We have a similar mistress.... prone surfing that is.

I've got my eye on a new short board, a Shadow from Von Sol http://www.vonsol.com/TheShadow.html Not quite as fish-ey but with some width and interested as hell about the quad pin tail set up. I do love SUP surfing but sometimes I feel really limited by the size/maneuverability of the board. And then there is the part about after work sessions where I really can't stick my SUP in my car nearly as easily as my prone board.

Just got my daughter her own short board and my wife her own SUP so I'll be doing both for quite a while (I would hope).
