May sound Crazy, but can you Tie the back end of SUP and Practice Stroke in Pool

I have a ULI and was thinking of tying the back, in leash holder, to some low stretch  sailboat line, and Practice my stoke technique and do a workout at the same time....I could do it at night also...I almost got heat stroke today paddling on a lake when its 100 deg in the middle of the day:D.......But would a Static board (tied up) in the pool and paddled, be close enough for a good work out?

I'm sure I'm not to first to think of this :D.  Doesn't everyone get ONE dumb question :D:D.

Yup, works fine. I did it in my lap pool at Ponohouse when I was trying to rehab my shoulder. I used a long, skinny leash so I had some stretch.

Really...so Bill,.. Oh, by the way, I like my new Kenalu paddle, Mike in Fl, got it to me 2 days!!!....the Catch is nice and even though I'm new, I could tell a difference from my other paddles.....The only problem, it was 100 deg. in south Louisiana and heat index probably 110...I was on a lake in mid day and after about 45 min. of paddling harder than I should be, I bonked...I got so weak I had to get on my knees for a while and could barely paddle....:D:D...I made it back to the car and the Air Conditioning...felt better after about 1/2 hour....and I drank a lot of water before...Its Just FREAKING HOT!! :D

Anyway...for the Pool setup, do you Want a line with some stretch or a line that won't stretch much???  I thought with a stretchy line, the board would be springing back to much and wouldn't be natural or could throw my balance off between strokes....

Thanks
Mark.

I have done it in my Endless Pool, with Canoe and Prone paddling workout on my longboard.

My pool is indoors though, with the ceiling too low to stand :(

Nothing that throws any balance challenge at you is a bad thing, you will learn to adapt and that will just add to your skill.  If you spend enough time on the water, the water will throw everything at you, so the larger your skill set, the better.  Of course if your pool is so small that when you fall, you end up hitting hard things, that is bad.

Regarding the practice stroke technique aspect, consider that with a tied SUP the paddle blade will be moving through the water into which it is planted.  What is desired for most strokes when paddling on the river, lake, or ocean is that the paddle is planted in the water and the item that is moved relative to that section of water is the SUP.

I'm not suggesting that pool work isn't lots of fun or isn't highly worthwhile.  I am suggesting that, if one of your goals is stroke technique development or improvement, you may want to put some thought into just what aspects of your stroke you focus on in pool sessions.  (Heck, some aspects of stroke technique can be effectively worked on even without water.)

Obviously, a pool setup with moving water can avoid the potential problem since it allows the SUP to be moving relative to the water.

Have fun!

That's one of the reasons for using a stretchy line. If you hold the board still ANY paddle will wobble because it will be 100% slipping. I found a thin leash gave me a reasonable feel, a bungee was too much.
