I will be in California for a Supsrfing trip in the Dana Point surroundings. What kind of neoprene should i bring?

I have a patagonia R3 and Oneil Psycho 3/2. Which one too bring?

Thanks.

AJR

Both - if you do dawn patrols you'll want the warmer suit.  Afternoons you can get away with a lighter one or even boardies if you don't fall in much...

I've been in a 2 mil LS top and 2 mil wetsuit shorts all winter.  Toasty last Sunday, enough to enjoy a dip or two.  The 3/2 will be plenty.  This weekend it's supposed to be 70+ along the coast.  (you'd kick my pintail if I told you to bring the R3... if you didn't die of heat stroke first)

Tom

I'm not that macho, but I surf year round and the warmest suit I have owned in San Diego is a 3/2, for both SUP and laydown.

Rocker,

Give me a holler when you are in town if you want the lowdown on the best spot for the given conditions on the days that you are down... I promise not to send you into any unfriendly territory.

What are you used to ocean-temp wise? Unless you're used to tropical, I think that 3/2 will be fine.

H2Oman

T-shirt & short in LA over the weekend.  I'm not saying it was t-shirt & shorts conditions, but I was fine.  3/2 otherwise.

Wow. Thanks for all the tips and advice.

So I will bring the 3/2 Psycho and a 2mm short and top for the warmer times. Will be training with some of the Hobie guys and will be in/on the water many hours of the day i think.

Guess in the early morning it can be quite chilly. What is the watertemp at the moment? Here i  Holland it is appr 7 degrees celsius brrr. On the lakes the ice just cleared so anything will be warmer than home  ;D.

@Tim. Thanks for the offer! Really nice. Will be with some of the locals (Colin McPhillips) But maybe we can share a session. Will give you a PM when in Dana Point.

Water temp is 58F today in San Diego.  I must be a wuss - I'm comfortable in my 4/3 Mutant lately for dawn patrols...

Until the water cleans up......I'd wear this....

Not to throw a wet blanket on your fire, but........

Here's what happened last time I ventured out in Doho's water a couple months ago.......

Take the short ride down to San Onofre, have fun with a the SUSing guys there, and save yourself the possibility of an uncomfortable/itchy rest of the trip and weeks to follow.

Much more important than the thickness of the wetsuit is the proper way to remove it. Here's some helpful hints:

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

You know what they say Paddlecrazy, "what doesn't make you stronger, kills you."
The good news is that sharks don't like sewage.

((bacteria levels are high after rain events, but it dissipates rather quickly.  You'll be fine a couple days after.))

"SloOl'Jim,

The entire area of Doho, from the harbor to 5000' south of the outfall has had a "D" or "F" rating from Heal The Bay for five months straight since October.....rain or not.

Believe me, I'm within walking distance of the dang place, and would love to wander down in the evening to put the board in that water, but after my last episode there, I'm waiting til summer rolls around, and the "A's" (or at least "B's") start showing up again.

Cuz' like them sharks, I ain't SUSing in a seagull, heron, and duck toilet bowl anymore.
