This is Livio Menelau, one of our top racers that lives here on Maui.  He's around 32.  Anyway here he takes a strong stroke in while he's been in the back seat, sees that this trough is stretching out into a long broad faced slope so he hops forward about a foot to maximize his CG ..or rather put the peddle to the metal.

Great sequence.  It's stunning how fast the elite standups are when conditions get knarly.  I've overheard the elite guys say how critical it is to be correctly trimmed on a fast wave.  It's seems obvious in the pics.

He is probably trying to get into what I call a medium swell, which is on the plateau of a much faster big, big groundswell.  That's what separates the men from the boys at maliko.  The huge groundswells.  Those elite guys are masters at hitting all of them.

They say if you get it wrong, the consequences are severe.  But when they hit it - as they almost always do - that long board goes forever.  Connor, Livio, Dave K, Scott Trudon  and Mark R. are so much faster than everyone else...  Jeremy does it on a 14, but that's another story.  On my best days in Oc-1 they would kill me.  Stunning to see in person.

That oc-1 up ahead is about to get his doors blown off.  Livio can do low 50's to the harbor entrance (if the wind is up).  Then drive up and do it again.  The elite oc-1's can get him, but not by much.

That's actually Jeremy waiting on a SUP  up ahead.  That's what the subjects have to do on a video shoot day... wait.  And then everyone says screw it and lets it rip.  Photos from video... in iMovie share to Quicktime as image sequence.  Stills come out of video at around 450 KBs.  Here's a cool one....from da achieves.

That really looks like fun. Thanks for posting the pics. My first downwinder in the Gorge this year was 2 days ago - 15 knots, small rollers, 40 degree water, air in the 40's. Thank you for reminding me of what could be....

Nice to see in sequence. I'm still amazed when I think about watching Jeremy pull away from me like I was paddling in concrete. The really amazing part is the grace...it looks like a dance on the water.
