I have a paddle that  has  a rubber type collar on it. by the handle I want to shorten the paddle by 2 inches caus I notice that some times  when paddling  for a wave  I grip the paddle 2-inches shorter than the handle cause to grip the padlle by the top hurts my shoulder.  How do you get the  collar off?

If it's only a problem sometimes and only sometimes when you paddle for a wave it's a shame to shorten it and effect the other 99% of the time that you're paddling and possibly give you back pain or cause you to only half dip your paddle when you can just do the Connor thing and slide your top hand down for those times that you need to.. You might find that the rubber is just a piece of shrink wrap tube that can be replaced so you should be able to cut it off.. Shorten the paddle and replace the shrink wrap tube before gluing the handle back on.. Or even just leave the shrink wrap tube off (it just there to cover to join for looks) and just use some electrical tape instead.
